I installed a Holley carb with the recommended gm kick down bracket and I am told if the kick down cable is not adjusted properly it will burn up the transmission in anywhere from a couple yards to 5-10 miles. If this is true, can someone verify this? I drove it probably 4 miles before hearing this information and haven’t driven it since because of other issues. I’ve since adjusted it, just curious if I will be dealing with other issues once I get this truck back on the road. Thanks

The main thing as far as I know is to make sure that the cable has tension on it at idle. But you usually adjust by holding the throttle wide open, then adjust the TV cable to be pulled all the way at full throttle. Then just feel it at idle to check for a little tension. This will tell you if the valve in the transmission is actuated some, and giving hydraulic pressure when running.

Hypothetically if it weren’t adjusted right, is it possible I damaged the trans in the few miles I drove it(under 4)?

Maybe is the best answer..some will fry clutches almost instantly, others might go several miles and show no issues--its a crap shoot..depends a lot on how far out of whack the adjustment & geometry of the cable was..

I am going to guess and say that the chances are slim, unless the transmission felt like it was slipping a lot. But at this point, time will tell. Adjust it and drive it after you get the engine running better. Hope for the best and se what happens.

Thanks for the help guys, I’ll update when I get a chance to work on it. I had the trans rebuilt a few months ago so hopefully everything is fine
