89 Suburban, stock tbi 350, 4.10 gears on 35s. I don't really tow, but I do climb mountains fully loaded when I go camping.
My trans has issues and I will be replacing it soon (1st and reverse planetary). The current tranny only lasted about 10-15k miles and I drive like I am 90 years old.
At the time, the builder convinced me to get a higher stall TC (I don't know auto trannies). It seems that it only locked up in OD. When I climbed hills or cruised in 3rd, the tranny would heat up quickly and not seem to level out under moderate load. If I throw it into OD, the heat drops off quickly (I have a cooler). Also, it seems the tranny slips toooo much when I climbed steep hills in first gear when wheeling (don't know if this is normal).
I want to make sure that I get an appropriate torque converter this time as I feel this current TC may be part of the reason of this premature failure.
