If its driveable, when you get up to 50mph it should be in OD and locked up, if not under heavy load (cruising speed) and the engine is warmed up. When cruising at steady throttle, step on the brake pedal lightly, if you hear a slight increase in engine rpm, then its locking up (check tach if you have one)

thanks Troy! ,for bring this back up. its not ready for the road yet still have quit a few things too do, as soon as it runs i will try the brake pedal trick. but i have no rpm might be more tricky, how many rpm difference should there be?

RPM difference is dependent on the converter stall itself, however 200 RPM is a fair number.

ditto Dorian....thats about what I've seen 2-300 on typical truck units.

i had so many other things too do i had moved this too the end off my list. well i,m slowly getting there so yesterday i phone a transmission shop,he told me to bring selonoid there he had a tool to check it. i guess its easly accessible with oil pan off.i will rewire my over ride switch correctly, and do the brake test ,and if all fails guess will change oil again in transmission to access selonoid.he says it could be burn,t! ( i mean the selonoid, transmission only has about 12,000 miles)
