I didnt have a shop rebuild it. I had a guy who use to work at a tranny shop do it. It has a shift kit in it and other than that a pretty stock rebuild. As far as shifting positions it has 1st 2nd D and when you shift to OD its just like you are still in D.
How much faith do you have in this guy? An improperly setup TV cable can smoke a 700r4 pretty quick. I'd run by a reputable transmission shop asap and have them check it out.
Sounds like Tv cable could be out of adjustment... was this a Full Rebuild or just the Bottom end? How far in RPM or MPH before it shifts out of OD or is this a nice wish, there completely is no OD?
What you guys are calling a tv cable, some one told me that it is a kickdown cable so therefore I dont have it hooked up. So this could be my problem. This is my first tranny with overdrive, everything else has been a manual shift.
That's your problem. Trans thinks you are under full throttle acceleration, won't shift into 4th. Are the other shifts holding out too long? With the TV cable disconnected you need to back off the adjustment where the cable meets the bracket by the carb. Push on the thumb tab and pull the cable sheeth towards the firewall. Connect the TV cable to the carb linkage and with the engine off cycle the carb linkage to full open throttle. This should set your TV cable adjustment. You can drive this trans in OD all the time. There is no reason you should have to shift it from 3rd to 4th unless you physically need it to stay in the lower gears (climbing a hill or towing). Hope this helps.
On a 700R4 it is a Throttle Valve cable. It's purpose is to adjust line pressure in the trans depending on how deep your foot is in the throttle.
A TH350 uses a kickdown cable. Essentially does the same thing but with a different purpose.
I have the same problem, no OD. and I have similar symptoms too, lower shifts do hold out too long, and the kick down response is kinda slow. I'll try to adjust the TV cable tomorrow.
