What axle came in the rear of a 72' 3/4 ton pickup? Found one on ebay & was wondering if it would be a dana 60. It is a fullfloater from the pics but the owner does not know the axle type or spline count. Thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

It could be a 60 or an Eaton ho52. The Eatons have a removeable third member and an enormous round pumpkin.

lol

cheap, lighter than a 14 bolt, and you can shave more off them...whats not to like?

no lip to catch crap too /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

The 30 spline shafts are about as strong as a 10 bolt or 12 bolt.

On an Eaton? Eatons are millions of times stronger than 10/12 bolts.

the eaten is very similar to a 14 bolt in many ways, you can also drop in a 14 bolt carrer and shafts,

being so.....I imagin it is alot stronger than a 10/12 bolt

The picture in the E-bay ad is of a Dana 60 out of a '72 Chevy. No 14 bolts until '73. And it does have 30 spline shafts about as strong as a 10 ro 12 bolt.

That is very misleading since the Dana 60 axle is a Full floater and the axleshafts never see most of the load a semi-floating 10/12 bolt do. The bearing hubs and axle housing take most of the vehicle weight off of the axleshaft on the D60 FF.
