72 Blazer on a 79 Frame?

Need to know if i can fit my 72 tub on my 79 Frame? Was wondering how the wheels would hit the wheel wells. I would imagine it should be pretty close. I dont mind doing a lil fab work. Thanks for any info

First Gen wheel base is 104"
73 up is 106.5"

You'll have to shorten the frame and fab all new body mounts. What is your reasoning for doing this? I don't believe there are any strength benefits to a 79 over a 72.

Well i already have my lift and custom driveshafts on the 79 frame. and custom bumpers. it would be pointless to do it all over again. plus i dont mind hacking a lil here and there on the frame. and body mounts wont be a problem.

If the fabrication doesn't scare you, there really isn't a question being asked here....

Pull the existing body off, drop the new one down....cut and modify as needed.


The only real question is if making the body fit your existing frame is easier than making your existing driveline/lift fit onto a 1st Gen frame. Front springs are different, but rears are the same. You could move the crossmembers to keep your driveshaft lengths identical...

It's work either way. The question is which is simpler and faster to do.

just do a shackle reversal on the rear and leave the front hangers and you should be close enough.
