I am working on fixing all the wrongs that the guy before me did to the K5. It is running an engine and trans out of a '98 Suburban. He hacked into the gas tank to put the compatable sending unit and pump in the tank to make it work. I do not want to run it the way it is because it looks like the entire top of the tank is covered in caulk or something. Does anyone know of a company that makes fuel tanks for K5's that will accept a modern sending unit? I guess in the worst case I may have to get a new tank and run an inline fuel pump and try to figure out how to get the gauge to work. I am running Dolphin gauges and they are not compatable with the old sending units. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

A custom fuel cell is probably your best bet.

You can modify the sender for a stock tank to add a fuel return line (like I did), but you won't be able to get a fuel pump down into the tiny hole very easy. You can then run an inline pump.
