Picked up this truck last night for my buddy. First things first, what do we have here? It’s got factory A/C, and a big block on the visual inspection, we’re gonna try and make it run. He wants to keep the paint the same, and find some steelies for it. I thought y’all might enjoy it though, I love the look of this thing.

Plans are new fuel tank, clean carb, and go from there.

Anyone have advice on the key matter? We have none, is the easiest route change the key switch out or?

It was a mutual friends truck, what I know about it so far is it’s been sitting in excess of 10 years. Of course the title is lost so it’ll be interesting to see how that process goes. If anyone has advice on that matter I’d welcome it.

To change the ignition lock or the whole switch is a pain without the key, in my experience. Destructive measures are in order as far as I know. The key lock has to be out to unscrew the bezel and remove the switch from the dash. And the lock comes out when turned counterclockwise past the accessory position. This is normally done by turning it to accessory, then push a paperclip into the little hole and turn more. Maybe you can try a screwdriver in it, or start drilling? Or try to carefully break or cut the bezel enough to let it drop out the back.

The title problem would be easiest to fix by having the registered owner file for a lost title, as least as far as I know. You would have to know who, and know that they won't claim the truck rather than signing it over to you.

Have you tried to turn the engine over by hand?

Nice score!

Well after a hectic 4 months I finally got around to seeing if this is even worth fooling with making a key for it and trying to get a title for it.
Rebuilt the quadrajet, slapped a battery on it, hooked 12v to the HEI and spun it with a starter button on a shop fuel tank. I’ll be danged if it didn’t bust off and sound healthy! Looks like I need to evacuate the truck tank, and get a key cut for it and press on!

The LR brake drum is locked up bigger than shit, not sure what’s going on there but it needs to be fixed so I can get it in the shop, any advice there?

I took a video of it, cause you know...big block :saweet: but I’m not tech savvy enough to post it, and honestly we look like a bunch of goons.
