Hey guys this is one of my many projects. Drug it out of a field a few years back. Front drums were seized so I put a scarebird front disc swap on it. Buffed the paint(decent 20 footer, driver), new wheels, Changed fluids and a few parts here and there and got it fired up. Was told it was parked for a rear main leak but the engine appears to amazingly be leak free however the transmission is leaking from the bell housing area. Haven’t dug into it too much as it is a 304 car with torqflite but I acquired a 401 and th400 from a wagoneer and had the machine work done on the block. Also spent way too much on parts for it ( Weisco forged pistons, Molnar forged h beam rods, edelbrock aluminum heads, lunati cam etc) need to get the new engine assembled and have the th400 gone through. Anyways here are some pics of when I got it and it’s current state.

Looking at these pictures it drives me nuts that the side mirrors don’t match. I like the driver mirror more but I have no idea what it’s off of. Maybe a different amc maybe something completely different

This place has more AMC folks on it than the AMC forum!!!
Those are Mustang mirrors and not AMC... doesn't matter much, the AMC mirrors are staggered too.

Nice ride btw.
Thanks for the heads up on the mirrors. I seen your car the other day, very nice! I was going to build the new motor to take spray or boost but with the price of amc parts and difficulty finding good 401s I may just leave it na and hope to increase its longevity.

@90RedBurb Thx for the compliment.
Just my opinion, but keep it AMC.
401's aren't as hard to find as you'd think if you're patient.
If you need help finding a couple, let me know.

With the right gap, they seem to like a little spray.

This combo put the previous owner's 2900 lb Rambler in the low 8's on a 275 DR.
We are putting it in a much lighter AMX & @folkenheath is updating it with his new progressive nitrous set up.

That’s awesome! Yeah I started acquiring parts thinking of going turbo. Had the goal in mind to give my buddies car a run for its money. He has a 53 Willy’s aero ace with a bbc. He has been low 10s (10.03 iirc)with pretty minimal effort as the car is so light.

Yes. Pretty affordable and decent looking wheel in my opinion. Only running a 275 tire in the back but have lots of room so will probably go wider at some point
Yeah. I know I have a set.
They look like alot of other 5 spoke wheels but different enough I'd spot them a mile away. They are a good look for the money.

I put 71 taillights in the car because I prefer the smooth lenses over the eggcrate lenses. Waiting for carreplico to restock the reverse lens as finding a good used 71 reverse lens that isn’t ridiculous money has been a chore. Theirs is still $300 but it’s also brand new. Just running the 72 reverse lens with 71 tail lenses for now. I do prefer the 72 egg crate grille though and luckily mine is in good shape.

We found a complete NOS 71 tail light set up at Cordova a couple years ago. Think they were 3k.
Seems crazy at the time but had a buddy pissed I didn't pick them up for his 71 restoration.

Yeah the prices are wild but there is only so many out there. I think I paid around $700 for a complete set but the reverse lens is broken. That is a beautiful car! I love the raised hood. Carreplico made a first run of reverse lenses and are supposed to be coming out with a 2nd gen lens anytime. They make other amc parts as well. I just stumbled across them one day while looking for that lens

I was too cheap to buy the right chin spoiler so I am running a Camaro chin spoiler on my factory valance

More & more people are repopping amc stuff these days.
AMCwharehouse, pg classics & carreplico usually have pretty good quality.

Most of my junk is 70 stuff. My Dad & I have been collecting (maybe hoarding) NOS parts for the last 40 years have lots of it.
It's amazing on the prices of this stuff. I have a couple 70 AMX grills with the receipts, one was $67 & the other was $92. Now they average 2-3k!

This 70 was slammed together with mostly NOS parts.
It's pretty sad, the parts are worth a lot more than the cars.

Your chin spoiler looks pretty good.

Thanks. That is a nice looking group of cars. What head gaskets do you use on your motors? I need to get the bottom end together then all I’m missing is head gaskets and measure for pushrods.

Stock rebuilds I usually just use Fel Pro's because I have lots of them.
For everything else, I use Cometic gaskets. They will make almost any thickness you need.
