Am looking at a '72 jimmy

Has factory tow hooks and factory skid plates

Body is pretty much shot, engine is some missing pieces, hard top is fine

3.73 posi, tach and tilt truck - has not run since '79

Is $450 a good deal for it.??????????

Were factory skid plates really a factory option??

What other options are really rare on '72 Jimmy's

E.g. dual batteries, front stabilizer bars, HD suspension?

thanks

The tilt and tow hooks, if original, make it worth that price.

Oh, if it is a tilt for a manual floor shift it is even more valuable! Is this K5 an auto or manual?

PM me if you want to unload the tow hooks. I'll make it worth your while.

I might even take the tilt if your parting it out. Is it for an auto or manual?

I think you have your answer right there - apparently, you could buy it, sell two of its parts, and make back most of your money. If you really want to be sure, just take some digital photos and post them here so we can all look at it. And if you're going to part it out, let me know too. I need some stuff. :wink1:

Single walled hard top was a 72 thing as well.

It's a single walled top if it bolts from the top down and has dome lights.

72 Jimmy w/ rare options

Thanks to everyone for '72 Jimmy advice.

Think I will go ahead and buy it

Good parts donor for my current '72 (all options except Tilt, posi, tow hooks and skid plate)

Let me know what parts everyone needs.

Here is what it has and what I am keeping:

  • Orange color - it it a rare color? My current Jimmy is orange too!
  • Tow Hooks - factory - listed on glove box - am keeping
  • Automatic - available for sale
  • Transfer case - available for sale
  • Skid Plates - factory - listed on glove box - am keeping
  • Tilt - negotiating w/ owner - he wants to keep it - what is it worth?
  • 3.73 posi - keeping it
  • Hard top - black - single wall - available for sale - my current '72 Jimmy has the double wall - think someone switched it?? - no dome light
  • Tach - negotiating w/ owner that wants to keep it
  • What other Options could it have on it??
  • Friend of mine already saw it - body is bad but frame is good
  • Am going to look at it over this weekend
  • Also, does anyone know correct Engine code (front of block) for this Truck??
  • .......thx

I believe the tow hooks are worth a lot, the tilt is pricy but not as much as the tow hooks, and the tach isnt a big deal, at least not to me. I have one too, but I'm going to toss it out favor of an autometer gauge anyway. Wish I had tow hooks though...:( I need the bracket that bolts onto the passenger floor that the folding seat latch mechanism goes into to keep it from flipping up if I hit someone. Its not a big piece, but we dont get these in the pick-a-parts out here for me to find a used one. Let me know how much you want for it. Hey, you can give him your tach and have mine in exchange for the bracket if you want. :)

What about the skid plates??

Are they worth alot??

My truck has the 36 gal. rear tank so rear plate won't fit

Front plate looks pretty cool.......

Do you guys see alot of Jimmys out in CALIF??

They were made here in Pontiac Michigan, so we see a fair amount...

Most were used as snow plow trucks and are completely worn out or rusted out from the salt.............

My truck came from Flagstaff, so body is fine.

One I am buying next week w/ hooks is a Michigan truck. so body is ROUGH.

I think the tilt may be worth more than the hooks. Good tilts can cost $400+.

If you're really going to use the hooks, that's cool. I wasn't trying to scheme them from anyone at a low price. I'm just willing to pay market price for them since everyone around here seems to want to hoard them until they're 90 years old and then sell them to fund their retirement. Kinda silly.

I actually want to mount them to the truck and use 'em.

Just FYI, my 72 has a double wall as well. I'm sure no one changed it out, it just got some 71 parts I guess.
