'72 K5 - AJ's Gray Matter Build

Those look nice, AJ.

I forgot what you ended up going with. IIRC you started with the Hookers, then switched em up for ones you found on 67-72?

Thanks guys. Yeah, Mike. I tried the Hookers, then a set of Hedman's, and wound up with the set off of 67-72. Overall fit is good. A little tight on the framerail at the motormount on the passenger side. But, by far the best set I've seen or tried. The guys at the local speed shop, including my friend who custom builds headers, were impressed with the quality on them.

Update 1/31/15 - Emerging from wiring hell. Been slowly making progress, but nothing really pic or update worthy. But, I've finally finished up all the wiring behind the dash and for the engine. Just three switches left to connect at the console and then start running down all the gremlins.

Everything behind the dash is done and zip tied.

Got the computer for the EFI mounted in the glovebox. I put a backing plate on the other side of the cardboard to give it a bit more rigidity for the computer...didn't take a pic tho :doah:

Found this on the workbench one afternoon.

Started on the shifters. Put in a Lokar 16" for the tranny. Pretty easy to set up and adjust. Shifts smooth while I'm sitting in the driver's seat making engine noises and running thru the gears. burnout

Modified a 205 shifter. Cut off the original arm and welded another on at a better angle. Shortened it by 2" too. It was too close in height to the tranny shifter.

Made a new bracket for the transfer case arm. Puts it at a better angle and shortened the throw of the shifter.

The Lokar bracket conveniently has a provision to mount an ebrake...that I used to mount the transfer case shifter.

Made the appropriate cuts to the tranny hump cover and got it set in place.

Tomorrow's plans are to get the carpet in, mount the center console, and switches...

Wow. I actually got everything done today that I planned...that never happens. Well, after almost 6 years, front carpet is back in. Seats are in. Console is set in place. Wiring for switches is done and connected.

Finally! Someone with more dust in their dash than me.

Looking good. How long till cruise-it-around-town-day?

Thanks guys.

Dave - I'll get a few pics of the firewall wiring in the next day or so.

That's 6 years of dust accumulated there. The "clean" spots are where I had to grab ahold of the dash for some reason or another.

2/9/15 - Torquing and stuff... Spent the day tightening everything down underneath the truck that's been hand tightened over the past 6 years. Nothing pic worthy there. But...

Dave - here's the firewall wiring. Still a little cleaning up to do here on both sides of the engine compartment. Waiting for some soldering supplies to come in.

Got the gauge panel in

Matching glovebox panel...nothing exciting about this

Set up the loud pedal cable.

Lastly, visited my tig welding buddy and had him tig a couple of tabs onto the radiator for the overflow canister

This coming weekend will be cleaning up the firewall wiring, loading up the fuse box, and start electrical testing.

Thanks guys. I wish the firewall was as clean as it looks in the pics. The paint is good, but I've got a handful of scratches from wrenches that slipped, etc. Some of it will buff out tho. :D

Buffer?? on a firewall?? You're getting entirely carried away, it's time to get some dirt on that bad boy!!!

Everything looks perfect:bow:....maybe too perfect for something that's going to get used:pimp:....it is going to see dirt again right?

What's going on the the a-pillar on the glovebox side? :dunno:

Looks like a mouse tried to eat through it..... Weird.

Unity style spotlights...on both sides courtesy of the PO. Took them out. Hated them. Interior will have a visible hole for a while. Left the exterior bracket on and will get a piece of aluminum rod cut to size to fill it. Will post up a pic when I do.
