GMC5.3 submitted a new Build:

72 K5 " newbie/gonna be a looong build thread"

i figured it was time to post up my own k5. I also want to hold myself accountable and achieve this goal of learning about my vehicle and get it family and road worthy.

1972 K5, non a/c, 4spd manual

My goals for the next few months are to get some carpet inside along with some sound deadner being that my daughters may be riding with me sometimes

As you can see I have some rust problems inside the back rear , I have no welding skills so I figured I would just throw some carpet over the top of this area

Welcome! Enjoy driving it a bit before breaking it (i.e. fixing it). First thing I can see is those little metal brackets in the bed that hold your rear seat down...are worth a lot of money. Hang on to those, for real.

Thanks for the info, I've actually been throwing around the idea of throwing in an escalade/Tahoe bench seat. I feel like the integrated hooks for the car seats are safer than my existing seat belts

So attempting to install a lift myself 6 all spring, I'm having some trouble with this brake line, I don't know if it has to come off and how it comes off, can anyone give me some tips?

I've never attempted it but my guess is you will have to take the drum off to remove it, unless there is a tool/way to do it from the outside.

Give this video a view, maybe it will help:

Did you need to get brake line extensions for 6" lift? Heard 4 is about the max but can't confirm.

If the line isn't long enough you are going to have to take the drum apart to get the parking brake line disconnected. It's a bit of a PITA. There is a special tool that allows you to push, twist, and remove the connection at the drum once you have the drum taken apart. It's pretty much a handle with a round piece on the end that goes around the line and onto the fitting. It's probably not a terribly expensive tool, and you might even be able to rent one from an auto parts store.

So far not so much, I sold the hardtop recently and picked up a softtopper, my order of priorities is pretty jacked up. The nice thing is I got some original door panels when I sold the hard top . But I'm still fighting play in my steering wheel, recently replaced my rag joint and test fitted some wheels

I'm trying to upload some pictures but it's not allowing me at this time, I'll figure out another way, I know pictures are mandatory with every long story lol

Just curious as they are getting harder to find, did you get a good price for the hardtop? Are you going to sell the 33's and move up in tire size?

I got about 1000 for the hardtop, this includes the doorpanels that were traded, and they are 32's but I do plan on selling them and going to a 35

That's a good price for the top, I'm still on the fence about selling mine, sure would be easier than removing it on nice days and storing it.

I would only recommend it if you get to park yours inside, I love it know because I roll the safari top a lot but we will see come winter time

How did you make out with your driveshafts with the 6" lift? I took 2" out of my lift and now sit at 6" total but I'm waiting on a double cardan shaft for the rear and the front shaft still binds even after clearance.
I’m sure your back in business by now but I had to order a whole new rear driveshaft and my front was still connected lol, if you get a chance post some pics of what yours looks like.

I’m actually throwing around the idea of adding a 1 inch or 2 body lift , I just thought a 6 inch would of been higher lol
