Looking at an FJ and was hoping someone could clue me in to the worth of these old toy's.

It's in good shape and runs well, will need some TLC but other than that, pretty solid.

Anybody here into these?

What's a "good deal" price wise on one?

That looks to be in pretty good shape, I would suspect 3-4k.

Try looking at completed listings on Ebay for an idea.

I just put in FJ40 1972 and had a few results.

None of them that actually sold were under about $5,900.

Restored ones were asking $15,000 or more.

WOW.

how much can you get it for:D looks pretty nice

Looks good , any rot? I would say in the $2500 range . The first thing I would do is put a small block in it!!!

Cruisers bring fairly high dollars around these parts . If the under side is not ate up with rust I would expect to pay $3,500 plus .
Real FJ's are way cool and 1972 is not a bad year for them - the later 4-spd's bring even more dollars.

GOOD LUCK , Tom

I just helped a friend build a 78 FJ40 and now helping sell it to built a k5. Its got a TBI 350, th350, cruiser case, cruiser axles with 4.10s and locrights, crossover and hi steer, disk all around with dual piston calapers in teh front, cages, full top and also extra half doors and half tailgate, 35x14 turds, 5 points, flames, etc. Asking $8500. Alot more rig than that but give you an idea of the potential.

You'll find LOTS of CruiserHeads over at www.IH8MUD.com :cool1:

Most of the TLC's in your part of the country are going to have major rust problems. They just don't like road salt.

This one's been oil undercoated let's just say...forever.

Thanks for the link.

probably BIG money!..

I haven't seen one that nice in years around here--in fact, the last time I saw ANY FJ Land Cruiser was one in a junkyard I frequent..it was just about rotted in half, but the owner sold it for 600 bucks complete to someone for parts!..

I like them, they are simple and easy to work on..I read their straight 6 motor is nearly a clone of Chevy's 235 from 55-62!..I had one in a '56 Chevy 3200 series truck, and it was very torquey, despite its small displacement..

I bet it would be costly to get parts for,but you could always upgrade to GM axles and drivetrain if you had too...I'd say if you could get it for 2 grand or so,it would be an investment, since most sell much higher--IF its not rusty!..

Not sure you'd want to do that. The drivetrain is pretty stout; rear axleshafts make GM 1/2 ton stuff appear tiny, and the front coarse-spline birfields in a '72 aren't nearly as bad as they're made out to be. The motor won't make much power or rpm, but has nice torque down low, and with that huge flywheel, it'll keep running at very low rpm. Gearing becomes an issue, even with 33s, so lots of people like to swap an SM420. Steering and brakes will let you know you're driving a vehicle that's 34 years old - ours feels much safer with disk brakes instead of the 4-wheel drums.
IMO the axles are weak. Pinions like to snap. Have replaced 2 in the 350 powered one and 1 in a 305 powered cruiser myself in the last 2 years.

To be honest, my hopes were to buy it cheap and flip it, thinking they were worth something close to a 1st gen blazer or the like but it doesn't seem to be that way.

May let this one go...

how much do they want? I just bought one in Mass for $300 a month or two ago. gonna go pick it up in the spring.
