I've been looking around for awhile without any luck on a pair of tailgate torsion springs for my blazer. I may have found a company that is willing to make them. My only problem is that I don't have any specs. Would anyone who has a set not installed be willing to send some detailed drawings? I've never seen one in person. I'm assuming they're about 3/8" diameter? Would it be easy enough to bend some soft tube to create a non working replica?

Not sure about someone making them. I searched for a year to find a pair. No one makes them on the aftermarket scene. I would guess with the number of Blazers being rebuilt these days that somebody would have developed that aftermarket part by now. I went with a used tailgate being sold on Facebook. I had to buy the whole tailgate just to get the torsion springs.

If the guy you talk to is able to effectively produce the springs he may be walking into a money-making opportunity. I may actually have two full sets of the Springs now. I think one is NOS and the other three are used from old tailgates. I'm not even sure what these things are worth but I might be willing to part with one of the sets. I'm only going to need one set and I don't ever plan on taking it out of them Blazer again.

You also need to make sure that your existing tailgate has the internal parts that are required to mount the torsion spring. LMC has some detailed Sketches of the tailgate that includes the various internal parts used to brace the spring inside of the tailgate. Most of those parts are not available through LMC and are also unicorns in the aftermarket parts world. Some of those parts, however, appear to be easier to remake then trying to reproduce the torsion springs themselves. I have most of those parts but I do not have extras. Those might be the parts you need to Source out for reproduction. Some of them that are really easy to do with basic fabrication and metal bending tools.

I'll look again but I'm pretty sure I have the other parts that are required with the springs. I am missing the anchor bolts in the frame but I can make those or get something similar.

Yea if you have an old set that you're willing to sell let me know. I'm certainly interested.

There are 2 rusted out Blazers near me but both owners will not sell anything off them. The trucks will end up in a crusher but they refuse to sell me the springs for some reason.

If I can get some dimensions on the springs I'm pretty sure I can have them fabricated from the shop I've spoken to. It would be interesting to know how many Blazer owners would be interested in a pair. It may bring the pricing down.

Ok I spoke to the custom spring shop again today. They said they can definitely make the springs. All they need is the dimensions. Hey Zombie would you be willing to get me detailed drawings and measurements? When you have time of course... no rush. My truck won't be back together for another few months or longer.

IF you pay for shipping, etc.... i will send you one if you send it back. They are mirror images of each other (left and right). Your guy should be able to create them based on only one.... Thoughts??

Hell Yea that works ! I won't send them your spring I'll create detailed drawings maybe even an auto cad file for them to work off of. Thanks I'll message you.

Hi there, were you ever able to get that company to make your torsion springs?

Unfortunately no. Everyone kept telling me they could help, and that it was no problem. Once I gave them drawings and measurements they all said no. I think they were looking to make big $ on thousands of units.
The gas strut idea was my favorite but once again nobody would help, not even slightly. I hate saying something can't be done. I know it's possible. It was just too much time that I didn't have.

Ok, thanks. Sorry it didn't work out. I appreciate the reply.
