Hey guys, now i'm kind of in a predicament here. I had a customer call me up today with a complaint as to why his dash was not fitting. so he sent me a picture of his dash panel:

now notice on the right side where the radio is, when did gm start maiking the dash panels like this?

all of the ones i've dealt with have been like this:

Thank you for the help!!

90 & 91 for sure but my bet would be that it started in 88 so GM could use similar radios in both the obs and nbs trucks.

Check Thunderusone's build thread, he ran into this using a Classic panel assembly with gauges in his Burb.

The one I have has a 1985 manufacturing date on it though.

din radio size hole .

ours should be 88ish -up.

could be made in late 85 getting ready for the swap. as lots of stuff is made few years in advance on things .

Pretty sure it was 89-91 like the small headlite nose. I don`t think I`ve ever seen one earlier, my 88 had the old style.

89 is when it started.

I have one if you need it for a period of time. Of course in exchange for a custom one!!!

Its only blazers and burbs that have that style. Pickups ended in 87. So that dash may have started in 88. I don't really ever recall seeing an 88 blazer or burb though.

Pick ups did too, sort of. The crew cabs also had the big radios, I had one in my 91 V3500.

I got that size hole in my 90. Made for an easy upgrade to this...

this is like my 89, I will check to see if all the later ones came like this, I have a 91 that was striped down model.

1989 is the first year. I have 2 1988 V10 Suburban's in my yard, and a 1988 Blazer. They all have the regular style.

Your customer's dash radio opening was for the BOSE/Delco radio's that GM offered starting in 1988. I have the same exact dash in my 91 V3500 Silverado, which came with factory optioned BOSE/Delco top of the line radio (built in equalizer) just like in the Cadillacs (still have it it my V3500 and works like a champ), but the dash you sent your customer is the same one as in my 85 K30 which has an AC Delco (casette player) radio in it.

My 91 crew cab was a Scottsdale, but still really a stripped down truck, had a big DIN am/fm only radio.

GM was using the DIN and a half radios before 1988, but they didn't use them in Blazers (Suburbans, Jimmy, Crew Cabs...) until 1989. I have several 1988 model vehicles in my yard, they all have the dual knob radios from the factory.

It may be as early as 87-88 from a silverado or custom package. There was a time when you could order the rig from the factory with different radio options. Or somebody swapped a newer. My 79 burb has 8 track am/fm with cb in it. So my radio opening while still a 2 post radio style is different than most others I have seen.

The dash on the customs pic seems to be a little longer where the radio goes I would say someone swaped a newer silverado dash in his older rig. Or custom ordered.

I have two 1988 V10 Suburbans in my yard that are Silverado trim, and a 1988 Blazer with Silverado trim. All three of them have the older style dash. I am telling you, 1989 is the first year.
