73-91 Crew cab trailer queen project, need advice

"built" for 10k.....

that leaves a lot open to interpretation

see my crewcab in the for sale section....
I couldnt even begin to calculate the hours of labor I put into it.....

we give labor away for free..... but it has a value

I bought a super clean original 36k mile truck for 10k...I searched for it for a year and I flew in the same day to buy it as the seller had people calling from all over the country....
I put 10 k into mine... and am selling it at a huge loss... because that is what the market will bear...

I think its usually always better to buy something done nice than think you can do it cheaper yourself.... parts pretty much cost the same... labor is for free...
you can drive it and personalize it and still be way ahead of the game...sure you may not have completely built it.... but you can enjoy it immediately and over time change it....

I have to say that I agree with that statement. I hate it though. To be totally honest I'd much rather have a 73-91 body style 4x4, crew, dually, diesel, restored than a mid 90's of the same truck. I just like the old trucks better. Watching "Overhaulin", "Rides", and "Trucks", misleads us regular guys. They have virtually unlimited budgets with sponsors and all. Unfortunately I DON'T have an unlimited budget.

EDIT: Just seen your post in the diesel forum. Looks like you did a good job! One question for you, though: Can I see a pic of the interior? Specifically, where the tranny and transfercase shifters are. Thanks.

Now THAT is an awesome truck! In my opinion the new ones just simply can't hang with that. That is a real truck. That's what I'd like to build only I'd put a dually bed and rear end on it. Very good work.

Here's a pic of my 1990 Silverado. I just bought her.

454 TBI
SM465
NP205
Dana 60
14 Bolt
Power everything
67K miles

Eventually, I want to swap in a Cummins.

Thanks for posting the pic. Now I wonder if a NV5600 will fit in one of these trucks.

NV5600 in these trucks

Well
(1) The NV5600 the case is alot bigger (2)The over drive is the same ,they just split up the gearing to make a 6 Spd.I dont think it would be cost effective and not really doing a hole alot just more wieght

That's just my 2 cents....

P.S the thing to do if you want to shift gears is go to a Clark 9 spd and bolts up to a NP205

Thanks
