1973 K5 Blazer w/ A/C.

When I move the COLD lever all the way to the left, the fuse blows for the A/C (HEATER FUSE on original fuse block).

Any any what is causing this? Not sure if this is the design or not, but on the underside of the body of the control assembly, the disc/arm will rotate all the way over until it hits a vertical metal piece. Not sure if this is a stop to limit the travel of the lever, or if making contact with this vertical metal piece is causing the fuse to blow.

Also, the in-dash AC hard plastic ducting, doesnt fully insert into the new vent body that I ordered from LMC that attaches to the dash panel. It's about 1.5" too short. Does this photo look like I'm missing a piece, or is there a method to extending it perhaps?

Thoughts?

my thinking is the temp lever is shorting the heater a/c circuit physically. The temp lever only opens the blend door via a cable. No electricity.
The register looks like the shaft notch is to sallow. an exacto knife to do a little trimming, not to much need some friction to keep the register from drooping.

On a 73 the temp lever controls the high blower via a switch in the control panel. Like said all the way to the left is high no matter where the switch position is assuming the single orange wire is connected to back of the fan speed switch.
On the firewall just to the drivers side is a fuse holder by itself attached to a junction block.
Remove that fuse if not already blown and try again to see if the fuse blows and you will know which side of the the firewall fuse the problem is.

Do you still have the old vent? What all did you replace - dash pad? gauge bezel? what is new, what old parts do you have
