Ok took some advice and upgraded membership could sure use some help. Here is the short version bought 73 Blazer cheap, but need a lot of work. Some mods can wait but some can't. Building the blazer for lake and mountain use so needs to be mechanically sound. Here is what I know has a 350ci yeah that it.

Blazer will be completely rollcaged, I want to run at least 37's and will do 91 front end swap already working on this. Sure would like some input on the most reliable t case, tranny and axles to run for this. Would like to do right the first time. Have been looking for a Dana 60 at junk yard, but would it be easier to upgrade the axles that I have now? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
You said building it for "lake and mountain use" does that equate to hard core wheeling or just fire roads and basic light wheeling? IF its more on the extreme side since you did say it was going to be fully caged, Yes, IF you can find a D60 for a decent price get it, and pick up a 14FF rear axle.
If you have been lurking around here for any length of time you know this is the "norm" setup, or what most are looking to build. That setup will hold up to most anything you will probably throw at it. As far as trany's go a TH400/NP205 transfer case set up with a doubler is a great setup for wheeling. There are MANY options with after market transfer case's but it depends on your budget. If money is not an object I would go with a STAK case over a NP205. But if you can find a TH400/NP205 trans/case for a good price I would just put some good parts into that and run it.
For 37's you will want somewhere in the neighborhood of about a 4:56/4:88 gear, some might say deeper, but I like the idea of a not so deep axle gear with a transfer case with many gear selections so you can run in the mud and wont be soo low geared but can still rock crawl with VERY low gear selection available in the transfer case via a doubler or 3:1 gear pack or the masive gear selection offered in something like a STAK case. Im talking BIG money here though.
You said "atleast 37's" So if you might like to upgrade to a bigger tire later I would go 4:88's or 5:13's. Im building a 73' K5 aswell, Im running 4:88's with 38 in tall tires D60/14FF axles, full cage, 383 stroker motor.
I will post up some links for you to check out for reference. I did a 64 rear spring swap, MIGHT do a 52 in spring swap up front, not sure just yet. My cage is 75% done, My K5 has a long way to go still. I have spent thousands so far. Good Luck on the build.
If you have any questions feel free to ask anytime. Im going to go look for links now, later.
OHH! and welcome to the site man!
