'73 Blazer interrior question

I'm trying to fiqure out the best way to install either 5 point seatbelts or regular shoulder seat belts in my '73 Blazer. I do not have a roll bar or I would just mount them there. Looking for suggestions from people who have already done it. Thanks in advance.

to do it safely and properly you pretty much have to have some kind of roll bar with a seat belt bar at the right height to mount the harness.

I think the only way to do it without a roll bar would be use a newer seat with the belt intagrated into the seat. If you install 5 points DO NOT mount the shoulder belts to the floor its a good way to break yourself in an accident

huh?? doesnt mounting to the floor and mounting to say a roll cage do the same thing?

I am in no way an expert on... well anything. However, if you were to mount the seat belts to the floor, in a collision, as your body trys to move forward, the static length of the belts will force your shoulders down compressing your spine. If the belts are mounted at the height that they come trough our seat, the effect is minimized or eliminated. Similar to how your supposed to carry a hicing backpack. Maybe an expert can help you better.

basicaly What Ive heard is that you want you belt at the same height as your shoulders.

I have herd 1 inch above your shoulders max to 4 inches below max, with level to 1 to 2 inches being optimum.

I really appreciate all the help and I'm glad I asked, I was getting ready to mount them to the floor behind the seats and hearing it explained I understand why that would be a good idea.

I think I will pony up and become a member. So I can ask these questions in the forums where they really belong, like the interior forum.

Honestly, if you plan to spend much time wrenching and/or upgrading your K5. THe money I spent on membership here has been well worth it. Ive saved alot of time and money just from the advice given by ppl here. I havent seen any other forums as helpful as this one and ive been a member of alot of forums.
