73 D44 External hubs

Can somebody explain the difference between an External Hubs and Internal? I have 1/2 ton axles right now and getting a set from a 73 K20 with a D44/14BFF combo and it has external hubs and their full-time, I need to convert them to part-time lockout hubs. What will I need to get?

A set of after market hubs. I went with the Warn Premiums (Thanks POWERMAD /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif)
