gonna replace the rear of the tub with the bed of a short box and weld in place. dimensions are the same.got this truck 5/12 and this is whats been done to date. hope to have it completed by the first snow fall. i live in Waterloo NY

Great progress and plan dude! Glad to see someone putting a rust bucket to use by replacing stuff instead of just scrapping it out like most would :thumb: So are you going to chop the box and put the topper back on some how? Or just replace the quarter panels with the bed sides?

my 2nd K5 3rd gen 305 TH350 208 10bolts. custom rollcage and lift i made shame i sold it.

Never gonna sell the one i'm working on now. 350, TH350, 205, 12bolt as you can see work in progress. all the rigs have been painted the same way. oil based enamel. good Sh!t.

by far not the best work ever done. as i troll threw old threads and see some of the awesome work you guys do. I'm always up for tips, pointers suggestions, off color comments, put the welder down, are you trying to suck, go buy a prius, that thing is dangerous and shouldn't even be on a trail much less a road or any other encouraging words

Glad to be here gents :waytogo:

yeah the idea is the dimensions from the center of the axle/wheel well are identical from a 73-91 K5 as they are for a 73-87 Short Box. from the axle cent forward is longer which is no problem cause i'm gonna cut off the excess ans weld to the original door jams. basically replacing the rear floor and both sides all it once. few small issues like fuel filler relocation and losing the glass form the old K5 tailgate for a P/U tailgate (fix by attaching a truck cap window to the fiberglass top like a 1st gen.) but in theory the whole idea should work. nothing a cut off wheel and fire stick can fix, oh yeah beer... gotta have lots of beer when doing this.

Fantastic. Definately gonna be watching this one. Alot of great ideas :thumb:

I'm not allowed to cross advertise but there is a build thread on AZK"%" that goes into way more detail. Buddy of mine started the site. Arizona is where i got into wheeling and lived for 10 years finally moved back home to NY and the hobby/lifestyle followed me

Holy crap man, respect the head first enthusiasm. A truck like that wouldn't even be seen at the junkyard, it would go straight to scrap around here. Good job saving it!!

Great progress man :waytogo: like others have said, most would have scrapped a rig with that much rot, good for you for saving it. Seeing what you started with may help to inspire others as well :D.

Love the full verts !!!! One of these days I'll get mine done, I can't wait.

Great work, keep it up :thumb:

Oh, and welcome to CK5 !!

Wow man awesome.

Thats a crazy amount of rust, like others have said it would have gone to scrap here.

Of course all full vert related compononts would have been removed if I would have scrapped it.

What color is it. I am kind of partial to orange.

awesome start start man! looking forward to watching your progress.

wow, and i got rid of my 84 tub for a 91 cause it had holes only in the floor... very nice man.

good god thats insane, and I thought mine had alot of rust. I think I mite have nightmares for a few days.

Wow!!! is all I can say. Rust is pretty normal around here but I wouldn't have looked at that one twice.

Outstanding project. I will be following your project. I have battled rust several times in different ways. I hate rust.
