I just recently aquired a 73 blazer. The drivetrain is solid, but the body is rusted pretty badly. I would like to do a total body swap and I was wondering what bodies would make the transition easiest? Any ideas...?:doah:

73-77 will bolt up; 73-75 are full-convertible and 76-77 are the halftop.

78+ will go but will take some work for the middle mounts, 'cuz the bed floor changed between '77 and '78.

fiberglass is awesome and all, but id feel like im driving a "kit car" or kit truck in this instance...maybe im just weird?

Im highly considering selling my 74 body... Going with just a truck cab, doin the truggy thing.

Did i mention is has already been line-xd and has a soft top...

Fiberglass is also over 8 grand!!!! :eek1: I would look for a 76 or 77 unless your set on the full top.

Other observations involve that fiddling with the VIN can be bad juju, especially relating to smog. If you put on a 76+ body, that'll include a 76+ VIN...

As far as the Vin # you just need to take it to the highway patrol. Let them know you are going to replace the body. They will change the # on the replacement tub and keep it legal. They will need to see the old tub prior to removal from the chassis.

you can do what I am going to do and use a newer body with the old windsheild frame so its still a convertible

Thanks

Thank you all for your responses! I think I will keep looking for a new body, preferably a full convertable, but I would settle for a half hard top as long as it's in good condition.

I'll start checking junk yards and looking around. I don't have much to spend. Thanks:laugh:
