Hey everybody. New here I will be bugging everyone with tons of questions about my Dad's 73 K5 Blazer. My 2 brothers and I have decided to get it back into good working order. It was the first vehicle my dad purchased new so it has some sentimental value. We've replaced the motor and the transmission. It runs good and moves good forwards and backwards. Our big problem is the steering column is toast. Has anyone used the replacement steering columns from JEGS? They look like a good deal and JEGS is a known name. The salesman wasn't sure on the column length that I need?

Here is the one he thought I needed.

He said that I also would need the 2.5" column drop, and the adjustable 2" floor mount. Anything else that I might need?

Is that the right column and length for our 73 K5? Also ours doesn't currently have tilt, He said that they were interchangeable

If anybody has a better suggestion, we are open to it.

Once we get it fully functional, we are going to be looking at cosmetics too.

I am not sure how the column drop bracket will work as these trucks have a "U" shaped bracket that bolts to studs in the pedal mount. I haven't looked at the column drop brackets that they sell in a long time, so maybe they found a solution?

You will need a different intermediate shaft for that one though, due to the double "D" on the column. Your truck should be splined from the factory.

Someone on here used a rebuild service recently, and had good results, but I can't remember what company.

Sounds like as much or more work to cram something in there vs. getting what you have working properly. Very little in the columns will break and not be repairable.

i haven't taken it apart yet, but the key ignition is broken and something in the steering column is broken because you can turn the steering wheel and the linkage on the other side of the firewall doesn't move. We did just find out that a friend has the whole column for that model blazer that he thought was fully functional. He is going to get it and we will check it out to see what condition it is in.
