'73 K5 Rear Bench Seat Question...

I recently purchased a 1973 K5 Balzer. The rear bench seat is secured with a hinge in the front but is missing the brackets to lock the seat down in the back. As it is configured the seat could flip forward if I were to stop too abruptly. I would guess that there are a couple of D Rings mounted to the floor to lock the seat into, however I'm not sure. Does anyone have an idea as to how I fix this problem and where to get the parts?

I don't believe that it's factory. IIRC, the 73-75's (and possibly 69-72) have brackets that just bolt the seat down flat. Four 1/2" bolts about an inch long, know them well.

That sounds suspiciously like somebody made a flip-up setup, which is slick, but it also sounds like they didn't finish it =))

You could start with a set of factory brackets -- pick-n-pull time for that, prolly. Or you could use some angle iron and DIY, especially if you have or know somebody with a welder.

If you were closer, I'd offer to have you swing out this way for a you-buy-the-burritos-I-weld sort of deal, but you can prolly find somebody in your area code, or at least not so far north :D

x2 I don't think it was until 78 that chevy offered a fold down seat but I've never seen a flip up though.

my 82 has 2 hinges in the front and the cab floor has two holes with rods across them that the seat latches to in the back. when i fold it up it's held in place by an expanding pole on the passenger side and gives me tons of cargo space. it's really a pretty smooth setup for the time.

i'd just rig up something similar to that if i were you.

My 73 Jimmy definitely didn't have a flip up rear seat. Pretty much just like Dremu said... 4 bolts holding it down.

Seat Picture

I could not post a picture of the seat in this forum but you can see it in my CK5 blog. The seat is pushed forward to show the latch and you can see the hinge in the bottom right corner of the picture. Any ideas?

This is exactly what I have...including the expandable rod, however no holes in the floor with rods. Any ideas as to how to rig something up?

I'm thinking of using some U bolts through the bed of the truck to latch the seat to. I could also weld on some heavy duty D rings as well. Any thoughts?

My '73 rear seat is bolted down. 99.99% sure GM did not offer a flip down rear seat option that year.
