This great short-step is a former project truck for Petersen's 4Wheel & Off-Road magazine (late '90s) and has many thousands of dollars worth of the right stuff on it. No more than 5000 miles on basically new everything. It's been 'wheeled enough to prove it works well for moderate 'wheeling but it's never been abused. I think it's a screamin' deal at $6995.00 to use as-is for a daily driver, moderate 'wheeler or tow rig. Or get a Doubler, crossover steering, etc., and 'wheel anything!

Click HERE for a complete buildup list and more photos. And let me know if you have questions. The truck is in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Thanks,

Ed Fortson

as a diehard chevy guy, i remember waiting for every issue with that truck being built to see what was going on next.

Thanks, 4wheelerjeff. I had a great time building that truck, and I hate to part with it. That's why I've hung on so long. But now it needs to find a good home with someone who can spend more quality time with it.

Wow! Now I can personally be in touch with the famous Ed Fortson!!!

I've been a loyal subsriber to 4WOR since May 1985. Yep, you read that right. I remember many of your articles and this buildup, too.
Matter of fact, when I was going thru all my issues to clean out house, I saved each mag that had your buildup in it. I also saved all the old '57 yellow Old Iron buildup, too, by Golden State Pickup Parts. Mighty Rat blazer is another one.

Glad to see you on here, Ed. Hope you come by more often as this site is one of the best for fullsize GM trucks, Blazers and Subs.

Hey Captain Obvious,

I'm blown away that you kept those buildup articles! I think if I had any idea they'd be remembered this long, maybe I'd have been too nervous to undertake the project.

And that yellow '57 was the rig that inspired me for the '73. I thought Old Iron was the ultimate combination of form (great looks, simple, clean -- perfect) and function (all the right stuff without being gaudy and overdone).

I don't know how well Old Iron actually 'wheeled, but my goal with the '73 Chevy was to make it 'wheel great and look great. Projects are never finished, of course, so there's always more to be done to make it better...

Anyway, how cool is it that you took time to write! Thanks very much.

X2!!!
I haven't been subsrcibing to the magazine for some time now since I've been in Iraq for two out of the last three years, and I'm here for another 5 months still, but I make sure to hit the PX (post exchange) two or three times a month to look for the new issue! I really can't wait to get back and get my subscription going again! If you're in touch with him you can let Pewe know I think they have the best mag on the racks and thanks for giving me something to look foreward too every month!
SShultz

Hey SShultz,

Hope the next 5 months pass fast and furious for you!

I agree that Rick Pewe is doing an amazing job with 4WOR, and I think he's the longest-lasting editor they've ever had. I talked with him in Moab at the Easter J**P Safari and he's just as gonzo as ever. So I think the mag will continue to be the best by a long shot.

Take good care and give 'em what fer over there!

Ed

Ed, where is Old Iron these days? Is it still alive and driving? What about Mighty Rat Blazer? Know anything of either of these two?

Sorry to get off topic but at least we're taking this thread back to the top for ya!

Here's a bump for a rig that inspired not only me but a cousin and our uncle as well.:D

Yo Capitan-- Sorry it's taken a few days to reply - I was out of town and not checking as well as I should. And sorry to say I don't know the whereabouts of either of those fine rigs. I wish they were both in my driveway... Hey, wait, that's why I need to sell the '73 - no more room; too many trucks.

Hey, anybody out there want to make an offer?

Ed

Hey CanmoreK5, thanks for the compliment. It's good to hear, and I really appreciate it!

Ed

Dealin' time

I've had some serious tire kicks on the Shorty, but nobody's come up with the $$. Problem is, the addition to the house is finished now. There's no room for the '73 and the little woman is gettin' a tad testy about it.

So do me a favor and check out the rig on Offroad Design's website (Yard Sale page) then give me a buzz at 970-257-0872 and let's talk turkey. It's dealin' time.

Thanks and have a great Thanksgiving!

Ed

I wish I had the cash to buy it but right now, I just don't. Anyway, welcome to CK5 Ed! Its nice to have you here. I also am a long time subscriber of 4WOR(started in May '93) and I still have every one of my issues that I've received. In fact, I got my copy of the February 2009 issue in the mail today.

Scott

Thanks for the welcome, Scott...

Thanks for the good words about 4WOR. I had a great time on staff and freelancing. IMHO, it's the best 4x4 mag on the planet, even though they're all (but one) owned by the same company now. Pewe and the gang are unbeatable.

Anyway, hope you have great holidays, and, uh, if you hear of anyone who needs a great 4x4, lemmeno. Hey, gas is cheap again, right?

I will definitely pass the word along! You have a good holiday as well.

How is this truck NOT sold already?!?! This thing's a legend!

Guess she's just waiting for the perfect match to come along. As I said, lotsa tire kickin... And hey, not only is gas cheap again but Offroad Design's sale is on. The ultimate stuff is available to make her perfect in anyone's eyes. IMHO at least. And thanks for that "legend" remark.
