This is gonna be my project k5.
(Pics to follow)

Base from what i have checked from the internet, this model is a 1974 blazer k5. The first thing i need to know for this project is about making it 4x4. Currently it doesnt have any engine and transmission and i wanna start from there. I was thinking of having a 250cid inline-6 from chevy and a transmission that would fit for 4x4 usage. no transfer case as well. But i was wondering if the 250cid inline 6 is capable of 4x4 project. The usage for this

so here is the first question to fill out:

1. Is the 250cid straight six engine capable of 4x4? ( if the answer is yes then what tranny can i use for it for 4x4?). You might ask me why I have to go for 250 straight six? Its basically that this truck will be used for tagging trailers and towing as well. Gasoline expense is also what i consider. Im thinking of the Diesel Engine that blazer did for the military versions. What engine and transmissions are being used on this version?

2. If the 250cid then is not capable of 4x4, the next engine i wanna work with is the 350cid v8 engine. Which tranny should i use for 4x4? which transfercase should i use?

So just this for now ck5. I hope to still upgrade this and give some lift and give it some nice bulky shoes. for now i wanna have it running. I would appreciate all input i can do for this. some may think of suggesting the use of other engines like the japanese import engines. Feel free to give me advise and ill be more than happy to get your advise with open heart even though that i really am for american cars. Give me all the options I can go for this.

Any chevy engine will work with any transmission.
They all have the same bolt pattern.
I would say see what you can find in Singapore and let us know so we can tell you which would be best.
The 250 six would be fine or the 292 six if you can find one.

Are all the transmissions capable of 4x4 feature whether automatic or saginaw manual? What transfer case model is suitable then?

4x4 transmissions have different output shafts than the 2x4 transmissions.

You will need a 4x4 transmission.

You could use any transmission that came behind a chevy engine. So turbo 350, turbo 400 and 700r4 for automatics.

For standard transmissions SM465 is what would work

I have only listed transmissions common to those years.

It is best to buy the transmission and transfer case together. Some have different lengths or splines on the output and input.

SM465 takes a different one than all the automatics.

I hope this helps
