74 blazer transfer case question????

I was looking at a pick of a 73 k5 transfer case and it had two "lows" and two "high" 4x4 selections. I have an 85 with the standard low and high. was that a factory locker option? and my question regarding the 74 is, well, did the 74 have factory lockers? I want to know cuz I'm getting one.
 
The case with two low's and two high's is a 203 T-case and it is actually a low, low lock, and high and high loc. The lock part locks the differential which is only found in the full time 203 t-case.
 
can you explain why I would want a low and a low lock? four and a four lock? I've only had the np208. school me on how this T case works

It will be low, low-lock, hi and hi-lock. The low-lock and hi-lock lock the center differential in the transfer case. This is necessary because its a full time 4WD transfer case.

Part time transfer cases don't need a center differential and hence don't have those two extra shift positions.

As for any kind of locker, there are no factory lockers in a K5 ever. There was a traction device called a gov-lok used but its not really a locker and is more failure prone than even an open diff.
 
Low would be in low range but 2 wheel drive.

Low Lock would be low range in 4 wheel drive.

High would be your standard 2 wheel drive 1:1 ratio which is what you want for daily driving duties for economy.

High Lock is 4 wheel drive but with the 1:1 ratio.



Low range in the 203 case is (can't remember exact number right now) like 2:1 which is basically doubling the standard high range down lower.

Running in low range gave you the ability to do just that, drive in 2 wheel drive but with lower range.

The 203 has an internal differential in it so that it can run 4WD on the street without binding (its a full time 4WD transfer case).

What this means is, while stuck in the mud in hi or low, you may actually be spinning only one tire even thought the truck is seemingly 4WD. This is because the differential in the 203 will route power to the path of least resistance (i.e. the axle with the least traction, front or rear).

Shifting into low-lock or hi-lock will ensure that the front and rear receive the same power and hence you would be spinning at least one front and one rear tire. Having the t-case in low-lock or hi-lock is just like hi/low in your 208.
 
sweet thanks. that makes alot of sense. Now because I don't like the way that any of that sounds, whats a great swap in T cases? I'm takin out the T350 and puttin in the 700r4 from my 85'. (the 74 is in good condition and I'm gonna baby it and take care of it....mostly street. The 85' on the other hand will look like it survived hiroshima)
