74 K5 rear drum HELP !!!

Working on my 74 K5 . The rear drum needs replacing . The problem is , the stock drums have adj slot in the drum . The after market drums do not have adj slot . My backing plates do not have adj slots . So what do I do know ????????? CUT slot in backing plate ? Anyone sell drums with rubber plug in front with slot cut in it like stock drum ? Is the 74 self adj ?

sometimes you can reverse and stop and get them to adj.

adjust and slide drum on/off till just a little drag .

this is how I did it for years as a mechanic . so many designs had the slot in the backing plate but with the suspension around it there was no way to get the spoon in there to adjust them up . stupid designers

NO rubber plugs at bottom where adj inside is .
the rubber plug ( adj slot ) is on the drum . Never seen this before .
Where can I find drums with adj slots in the face of the drum ?

Sometimes they are pre stamped on the back plate and have to be punched out.
Drums with slots would be new to me IDK.
Like sweetk30 says is easy way to do it as Long as the drums are straight.

Actually the majority of drum brake vehicles do not have provisions to adjust the star wheel through the backing plate or the drum. In those cases, you use this tool…. Adjust the pointy ends to gauge the drum inside diameter then adjust the shoes up to that spec by the flat part on the other end. It’s been an industry norm for decades

The car quest drums should work !
They have a knock out slot , just have to get a punch to knock them out .

Ive always just ajusted them until the drums slide on with some friction... They should be self adjusting when you back up and hit the brakes...
