Hello (new poster) and Help,

I have a 74 K5 with a NP203 (manual trans) that came to me with the part time kit already installed. The transfer makes a lot a racket inless I either lock the hubs or pull the transfer into 4 hi. So I'm figuring the chain is stretched.

I found a junk 1985 K5. Haven't seen it yet, not sure if it's auto or manual tranny. According to info I found here it would be a NP208.

Would it work? The guy said I could take the drive shafts also, all for $200.

Thanks, Chris

I did try the search...

yours is a manual trans so you would have to find a 465/208 adapter, or swap to automatic. you need the crossmember and the driveshafts may work with the 456/208 combo...but in my opinion it would be better in the long run to find a 205

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but assuming a guy finds a 205 then what? I mean what is involved? 205s were in many different types of vehicles so I assume you have to match splines or change shafts on the transfer case? The reason I ask is because I am in almost the same boat as the OP but I have a TH350 with the 203 so maybe the answer will help us both out. I've been wanting to yank out this 203 and replace it with a 205 ever since I got it.

Your manual trans is a 10 spline output and an np208 only comes in a 27 or 32 spline version. You would need to swap in a 32 spline output on your SM465 and then find a 32 spline version 208 with the correct adapter for the SM465.

Your situation is alot easier to deal with. You just need to find a 27 spline 205 and a TH350/205 adapter and drive sleeve.

Sweet! I was hoping it would be that simple. Thanks for the info

BTW, sorry for the hijack Chris. These guys are awesome and often there are similar questions to what I have. Like I keep telling the old lady, "Best $25 I have ever spent!" :haha: Just hope someday I am able to give back as much as I have learned here.

If you do swap transfer cases, make sure to sell the 465/203 adapter to someone on this board.

They are somewhat tough to come by and there are a bunch of people looking for those to build a doubler ;)
