My speedometer and rpm gauges are not working on my 75 K5. Every other gauge works perfectly fine. Is this a simple fix or something more? I'm thinking it's the speedo cable but I'm not totally sure. Whatever it may be I was hoping to get some feedback on what the best part to use is and how I should go about fixing it.

If you have a facotry tach, it's running on a separate harness from the rest of the cluster. It connects directly to the distributor, power and ground. Pretty basic to troubleshoot.

Speedometer is mechanical. Pull the cable at the t-case and with a cordless drill Christmas chuck up the square shaft to the drill. Run the drill in reverse and have someone watch the Speedo. If it moves, the drive in the t-case is the problem. If it don't turn, pull the cable at the speedo and run the drill again. If he other end works, the speedo is the issue, if not you got a bad cable. Look for the possibility of a factory cuise setup as it will intercept the Speedo cable and can be the reason it don't work.

I think these old mechanical gauges are prone to failure. I've gone through 3 different gauges since buying my 75 3 years ago. Even the one I have currently bounces until i hit 30 MPH, and often sticks when temps are hotter than 80 degrees. As for the tach, make sure it's got a positive and ground running to it and that the tach lead is plugged in at the distributor.
