I guess you're going to cut some metal off the ends of the bumper, right? I must say I like the old truck. Lots of rust already, so you won't mind cutting and smashing the body up. That's one problem I've had with mine. When I bought it, it had just a little rust and mostly straight body panels, so I felt bad about cutting out the fenders and stuff. If they had been rotten already, I would have just cut off the rusty spots and gone hog wild.:hack:

this is with the clevis added on for looks

now I'll try to get it all mounted up and the mounts tacked in so i can make the cuts on the tube ends to follow the bed lines. then I'll finish welding it all out.

That's exactly how I want to make my rear bumper. Is that 2x3 square tube you're using? What size pieces are you using to make the mounts? I'm ready to see how this turns out.

The tube is 4x6 the mounts are 1/2" flat bar 3" wide at the frame end and i added 1/4" flat bar on both sides of the mount where the clevis goes to make it 1" thick there. well here are a few progress pics from today. I cut the slots in the tube for the mounts to go through with a torch.
these are the angles on the ends

I like the way it's looking so far. I like how you had enough sense to let the bumper stick out on the sides enough to have a step in you case you put the tailgate back on and have it down and need to get up in the bed.

What kind of welder are you using to weld the 1/2" steel? It must be putting out some serious juice. I'm ready to see what the front is going to look like.

I got a Hobart handler 210 that gets the job done just fine and I also have a Lincoln 140 for small stuff. I still have to add the finishing touches on the rear like the access for the winch I'll be putting behind it in between the frame rails and lights for working behind the truck at night. But due to the man I'm going to jump on the front bumper now and get it roughed in. Pics to come.

Cool. When I build mine (one day) I'm thinking about trying to integrate a 2" receiver hitch in the middle of it. I like the looks of that Lincoln 140. That's the 120 volt MIG or flux core one, right?

What did you have to do to get the front bumper to bend back a little like that? Are you going to put a winch on it? I know you said something about a winch between the framerails for the rear.

I notched the tube 1/2" from the back side heated it and bent it around then welded it back up. yes I'm putting a winch in between the frame rails in the front also.

Just a quick update the bumpers are done except adding in the winch mounts and the fare leads for the cable. on the front bumper i still haven't decided on how i want to do the grill guard for it any ideas would be helpful. I'll get pics of the bumpers posted in a day or two when i get my camera back. also i got my homemade shackle flip done in the rear still got to put the 6" super lift springs on the front will be done with that by Thursday pics to follow on that also.
