Hi,

I am the owner of a 1975 K5 Blazer with a full removable top. I obtained it from a family member who used to have it in colorado as a hunting truck ( truck now located in eastern PA ). originally i wanted the truck to take me up to the mountains to go skiing, but due to having to travel a lot for work, i have be unable to do anything at all. NOW TO MY PROBLEM. i came back from a longer trip and noticed that the right exhaust pipe was hanging. after i had it looked at i found that it had rusted through behind the tail pipe. i had this fixed with a new pipe only to get home and have the reverse gear go. now i am not a mechanic so i do not know much about this stuff. but i talked to someone who works on only old chevy trucks and he told me that the transmission could have gone or the reverse linkage could have came off. the truck never had any problems with slipping gears or anything. it was just out of the blue that this happened. now i am thinking that i would like to sell the truck, because i do not have the time to fix the problems or restore the truck due to work. i put a add in the local papers and had no responses. so my question to all of you is where is a good place to list it for sale and how much should i look at getting for it. the engine runs great and the body and interior are in very good condition. i do not have the 500.00 to 1000.00 to fix the problem with the reverse gear so i would be willing to work with anyone who is interested in purchasing the vehicle.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check out the "Blazer/Jimmy For Sale/ Wanted" message forum on this board.
It is toward the bottom of the Message forum page. You might post your
request in that area too.

Are there any "nickel savers" or similar ad only publications in your area?
You usually see them in racks by the door of your supermarket. Those
would be a good place to advertise.

Did you ever take the top off while it was running good?
If you haven't... don't!

It would be hard to sell it if you ever went cruising through the woods
on a warm day with the top off.. or drove home on a cool evening with
the radio blasting and the stars ablaze over your head.. so whatever
you do, don't take the top off (Grin).

Good luck!

Oh! Don't sell it cause of that! Blazers are fun...a little tranny problem isn't a reason to sell in my opinion. That whole thing about the stars with the radio brings a tear to my eye *sniffle*

I wish mine was full convertable. Maybe it will be in the future....

do not want to sell it because of the no reverse.. hell just do not drive backwards :) ... it is just that i do not have the time to do anything with it. i have the k5 blazer, a 86 ford bronco ( full size ) and a 2000 dodge darango ( company car. not by choice :) ).... i think the k5 is the best one of them all... the most room. solid truck. just all round great.

So sell the Furd, and dump the money into the K5...drive the Durango while the work is being done. Come here everyday and provide updates and get addicted like the rest of us.

Might not even cost a $1 to fix. the linkages on older trucks are prone to wearing out on the lower piviot where it connects to the tranny. It gets sloppy and doesn't correctly select gears. If your having difficulty getting park this is probably your problem. Look at the tranny where the linkage comes in. the other end is in a spring and a pivot. the pivot wears out ant lets the spring back out. you can put a flat washer in there and will fix the problem.
Now a TH350 is a cheap tranny to rebuild and if you remove it yourself many NON chain shops will rebuild it as low as $300.
To sell it try the Auto Trader. I have never had any luck with the local paper.

i would love to sell the ford over the chevy, but i only use the f*rd for snow plowing and it gets much better gas mileage then the chevy. especially in 4x4

what mileage are you getting in the ford? the blazer? stock blazers are supposed to get like 16-17 mpg while stock broncos are closer to 13-15 i believe.

the ford has a factory rebuilt fuel injected engine where the chevy is a rebuilt carb. engine. i do not know the exact mileage that they get but it just seems that the ford goes a lot further on the same amount of gas. maybe i should get the chevy tuned up.. ;)

That Ford have a bigger tank?

I still say, sell the Ford to build the Chevy. Of course, I would like to say that I am not at all biased here. Just ask me and I'll tell you so!
