I have stock transfer (203 I think) and have noticed a chatter type nose coming from shifter on floor when driving. It seems to be getting louder or maybe I need to turn up the radio. I have had transfer case serviced several times over the past few years. Could this be normal type noise or could it be the start of something? I assume the correct fluid was used the last time I got it serviced. Is there a fluid additive as used in my limited slip diff to maybe cut the chatter noise down or should I have it opened? Maybe it might be a good time to replace. I value everyones comments. I have used many comments and info tips from past postings. Thanks in advance. Harry, Escondido, Ca.

If your truck is a manual then you have a 205 and the problem if the small plastic bushing around the bolt that holds the the shifter on. It also has a grease fitting that you can grease and it will help for a little while. If you have an auto then it would be a 203 and I dont have any suggestions there

I thought I was wrong once,
but I was mistaken

i also have a chatter comming from that area i think mine is the u joints starting to go, or the cv joint is making niose. I get some noises when to gear shift some times hits the opening in the floor.

When mine starts to rattle I hold the shifter while driving to see if there's an increased level of vibration that's noticable. If so, I know it's time to start looking for a u-joint that's on its way to that big junkyard in the sky.

mine rattles...no big deal. probably the plastic bushings where the linkages connect to the shifter had fallen appart and the they are rattling. Also might want to check that the bolts are tight between the adaptor including where the mount is for the shifter.
Is it a converted 203? Your supose to get that chain spinning every couple of hundred miles to help lubricate that rear bearing if it is converted.
