I picked this up on Craigslist last week:

My dad had a CJ-7 for a lot of years while I was growing up. So while I like the squares, the CJ always has a place in my heart.

It’s got an AMC 360 with electronic ignition and an edelbrock 4bbl carb. Dana 30 front, narrow track 44 in the rear. ARB lockers on both. Transmission is an IH 4-speed (now tremec 176?) and a Dana 300 transfer case. It’s on 33” tires and has a massive warn winch.

I like this particular one because it’s had mods done already so I wouldn’t feel bad changing some things up.

Compared to a squarebody, this thing feels like a go-kart. It’s really fun! My plans for it right now aren’t much — fix up some gauges, patch the body rust (the frame is in great shape), and possibly an EFI conversion this summer or fall. I like the size and since I have a K5, I don’t feel the need to try and get 37s under it. However, the 33s do rub on the front springs when turning sharp, so I’ll get in there and try to limit the turn radius with the knuckle adjustments.

Longer term, I have a 2014 5.7 hemi that needs a lifter job. I’m thinking I can build that engine up and drop it in here, probably making a lot more power than that AMC engine.

360's don't take much to run.
Here's the dyno results from a mid 80's jeep motor I threw into an old Javelin.

Engine is very basic, Bullet 214 @ 0.050 hydraulic flat tappet cam, 10:1 comp and mildly ported heads.
Has an air gap, 650 cfm carb and free flow exhaust manifolds. Used Wisco pistons and Mollinar rods.

& if you want to offset grind the crank you can get 383 - 396 pretty easily using chevy rods and custom pistons.

Nice Jeep! I just picked up an 85 CJ 7 as a flip, but the more I tinker on it I want to keep it. Yours is clean and the color I had in my head to paint mine. Probably going with woodland camo though.

Everything is small scale compared to my K5 and F250. It's a nice change being able to reach the firewall or down into the engine compartment lol.

The Hemi sounds like a cool setup. I was messing around with colors in Photochop with green colors.

Thanks! I'm pretty sure the color matches my Dad's 2005 LJ factory color: Electric Lime Green Pearl.

Is that a factory console in yours?
