Been a little slow on the updates again... Tore my meniscus about a month ago, been stuck home with that since. Unfortunately, having a knee injury also precludes working on the truck....
Finally felt good enough to get back out there this week, so I've been hitting it hard. Got all my wiring finished up, serpentine stuff bolted down, fuel tank swapped out, fuel lines made, relays installed and wired, power steering hydraulics mounted and plumbed, e-fan temporarily mounted...
And finally got to start it up last night! Gave it a good 30 minute burn in on the cam. It was a little rough getting going, but I figured out late last night what was wrong...
In case anyone out there reading this decides to do megasquirt, the general settings where your set up your basic stuff, it asks you for number of cylinders to calculate your required fuel... I thought it odd that they would want to know the number of cylinders for that calculation, but I thought to myself "don't argue with the experts, they know more than you do..." After reading many, many pages of tuning documentation, I found one little snippet that said "Note: Under number of cylinders, input number of injectors." I only have 2 injectors... So that's why I was running so lean and couldn't get it to run with the calculated VE table, it was only feeding it 7ms of pulsewidth when it should have been getting 28ms... Only giving it 25% of the fuel it should have been.
Also, when I went to restart it after a shutdown, had a dead battery. Finally figured out that my junkyard alternator isn't charging. Tried all kinds of things, hooking up the sense wire to the batt post, which should be done internally anyways, and putting resistors in the idiot light terminal, etc... Nothing would get it to kick on, but the idiot light wasn't on either... At this point I can only assume a fried regulator or something, got it off the truck, take it to O'Reilly's tomorrow for a test and probable replacement...
Then on to more fuel tuning. Waiting for Icon to finish my shocks, hopefully they'll be done next week. In the meantime I'll probably replace the bracketry with our own plasma cut setup, they look and function much better than the ugly stuff I cobbled together when I first built this truck...
Pictures to follow.
