76 k5 Wheeler build-GIT ER DONE

Thought it through and im just going to go with the spacer idea as indy4x4 stated. Wish i was told of this issue when i bought the kit though :angry1:.

The spacers are fine. I have an AZ-Kickin disc brake bracket just like that. Its probably 10 years old and on its second 14B. Never had one issue with them!

As mentioned above if you dont use the spacers it wont line up with the rotor correctly.

I may just save up for the PSC set up since eventually i would like to use this competitively and hydro steering may not be the place to ghetto fab. As of now push/pull it is. But i change plans by the minute so who knows what will end up going in

I will have to say that hydro from Farm equipment WILL work, but if your plan is to use it for COMPs then you will not like the response.
It's good for cheap hydro if all you need is for it to work.:waytogo:

I anticipate some modifications to it in the future but i havent been wheelin in almost 5 months and im gettin alot of anxiety build up or as i call it ''wheelin withdrawl'' :haha: . A bling pump and a different orbital will probably be required for comp. use.

Edit: I was working all day so i couldnt make it to lowes. I asked my dad if he could pick up some 3/4 long by 1/4 ID spacers and he comes back with a bag full of washers because the available spacers were too thin :haha: :haha: . Ill be looking for a hardware store open on easter sunday now :doah:

You know to become a decent racer, you really need to get some seat time. Preferably in several different rigs. Your rig is a perfect rig to get some seat time in, you need to learn how to drive.

I started out in a dead bone stock sami, loved it, we wheeled 4 times a week, I wheeled with a dead bone stock blazer for a while, and a couple of other stock pickups.

You learn alot about how to drive wheeling something that is built simple. Learn how to get around things ( not obstacles limitations your rig has).

Trim out the budget till you can afford to go wheeling. Then wheel it A LOT, then use money to buy parts you know you are going to need.

Forget full hydro, why full high steer, why not just crossover, used crap tires if you have to, shoot bald irocs do nearly as good on the rocks (not so much in dirt) if not better than full tread irocs, had a set of Parnelli Jones tires for a while got for free, didn't mind them at all.

There is no substitute for seat time. In any form of racing.

Get wheeling man!!!!:D:D

I agree with everything accept for the crossover, if it's a trail only rig... For the cost of crossover, you can easily go full hydro and still save money... Then never look back...

Im gettin into the build and ive quickly realized funds will need to be reallocated.

Total funds=2900

Things that need to be addressed

1.Install 14BFF rear disc i already have
2.Move spring perches if needed
3.Already have spring plates thanks to Chevysmith :waytogo:
4.Weld front and rear + drive flanges in the front, will be replaced with a spool and arb as soon as possible. Drive flanges arent included in above price.
5.New brake lines and u-joints
0/400 spent

Tires+rims-1200
0/1200 spent

Steering-600
0/600 spent

0/20 spent

MISC. 200
-Gas tank guard,Few grade 8 bolts into the frame and a piece of 1/8 in steel and call it good.

0/200 spent

Total cost=2400
total cost w/expenses=2720

Here is my established order of things
1.Axles so i can do steering
2.Steering so i can make sure everything moves right asap
3.Tires/wheels for increased clearance for the rest of the job
4.Transfer case
5.Misc.

I found a sweet set of trail ready beadlockers and IROCS on CL in my budget so ill call him up tomorrow. Also found a orbital that will fit my application perfectly in a wanted ad over on pirate 4x4. Things are coming together nicely :). Im a little short on wrenching motivation right now, Something about waiting until the last minute is just so much more exciting :haha:.

I found a set of 39.5x13.5x17 super swamper IROKS that he said were like new all around on 17x10 Trail ready beadlocks for 1300 bucks.

His pictures sucked and apparently the sun prevented him from getting any good ones but he sounded like a real stand up guy so im going to go on his word. Hell the rims are almost worth that :deal:. He said the tires have at least an inch of tread all the way around which i find hard to believe since brand new they only had 21/32nds but i think thats his way of saying they are like new and in very good usable condition. Its a 2 hour drive though so lets hope hes not full of shet. Not as much tread depth as the TSL Bias plys but these are the exact rims i wanted so a little grooving should take care of the iroks inadeqaucies :D

Ill post the ad link since i already made a deal with the guy.

Just because you called him and said you wanted them doesn't mean JACK. Money talks and if someone shows up with the cash it's theres. If he were a good seller he might have told you that.

Forgive me if i sound arrogant, But i feel that i have done everything in my rig that i can safely do. Some SERIOUS safety modifications are in order before i go any farther. I have been in several situations where i could have easily lost my life because i just couldnt stop pushing my rig. I outdrove death more than once, But im ready to get in something more capable that will be there for me when my abilitys fail.

I dont know if i've said it here, But i used to have a business petsitting where i would live in customers houses and i averaged 40 bucks a night and that wasnt including the obscene allowance i was getting from dad. During my senior year when i got my license i was petsitting aloooot and subsequently i had quite a bit of spare cash, I was gone Friday to Hollister Hills when school got out and back sunday night and sometime monday morning just about every weekend.

This rig was my first DD,I sat in it listening to the radio and reving the motor up and down and just looking at how things work while my dad taught me how to transform this old beast into a Reliable rig. All my driving habits were developed in this rig. Its gotten to a point where i dont even want to go wheeling in the rig as is because theres nothing else i would feel comftorable doing.

But rest assured,I do see the need to develop my skills behind the wheel. Im just upgrading my equipment to match my growing skill.

It seems to me like you are doing anything and everything you can think of to have a cool rig and not to enhance your rapidly growing driving skill. It takes people YEARS to get good at something. So I don't know how short of you being some phenom or something you think you are that bad ass of a motha to need all the crap you are putting into your truck. If you are the next motorsport Michael Jordan then go for it. (i'm calling bullshiz but whatever) However I don't recall any wheeling pics put up by you except a dirty blazer in a parking lot. It seems to me this thread is all about how you need to make your truck as great as you are because a stock rig just cant keep up with YOUR AWESOMENESS! Its your truck you can certainly do what you wish of it but you need to maybe just maybe get a reality check and like others have mentioned here before me and wheel your stock rig with mods as you go before you piss away all your money on mods you don't need YET. But hey its your puppy sitting money so do what you want. lol

About your steering... if you have $600 budgeted. why not maintain mechanical linkage with crossover (which you should be able to do for $100 or so and buy the redneck ram kit where they rebuild your 2wd box and send you the ram tab and lines for hydro assist. they you maintain mechanical linkage but still have the ability to easily turn those iroks... which will look sick btw... I love the look of the trail ready beadlocks...

I am 45, drove all kinds of 2wd cars and trucks where these guys would get stuck with their 4x4, then stepped up to bigger tires, then put low range in 2wd, then got a 4x4 stock blazer on 31" tires with a posi rear.
Wheeled the piss out of it for years where guys were running AG tires.
Came here and wheeled the Rubicon with a full size K5 on 35" tires when everyone needed 42" tires on their jeep to get over obstacles.
Give me what you are building and I could climb up walls, and I am far from even being considered for racing.
Get seat time period.
Spend the money you have on gas, you will need a lot of it.
If you are worried about safety, get a roll cage, and seat belts, and get out there.
