It could have anything from a 250 inline six to a 454 depending on the package it came with. It could have a turbo 350 or a turbo 400 trans, a 203 or a 205 t-case, and it should have a dana 44 8-lug front and a 14 bolt rear. Hope this helps.
Nope, '77 was the first year they started them. The '77's came in either D44 or 10B. Don't ask me why, but both were available then.
BTW, the '77's are the "second design" vehicles. This means the spindles are bigger and the backing plates are the full, 1/4" thick plates. And most bearing hubs on the 3/4 tons are internal hubs. Another good reason to keep this year of truck.
I picked up a 77' 3/4t with a stout 400 smallie and a new turbo 350. After much reseach and several calls to the local dealer the truck has a 14ff rear and a 10 bolt 9.5 inch ring front with 4.11 gears. and paid 750 oh it also has a 203 with a part itme kit in it all for my JIMMY!!!!!!!!
73' GMC Jimmy 8" lift and 35" tires.....14 boltff and big 10 bolt on the way
