so I was just wondering if anyone is running long tube headers on there 1977 style blazer or pickup. My problem is that the headers hang down so low that the spring shackles hit right at the collector. Pics are coming. I am thinking of heating up the headers and trying to tweak them slightly so they will clear the shackles. If anyone has any inoput or solutions that would be great.

It happened to my dad also, he just bought new ones though, can you return them?

Mine are really close. I'd say just try tweaking them over.

Try taking the bolts out with the headers off and instead of having the lock nuts to the inside of the chassis turn them around so the lock nut is to the outside of the frame and re-install the headers...problem solved.

I had no luck with reversing the shacklet bolts. Mine weren't hitting at the collector, but just get the engine hot, and use a 2x4 between the frame and header to move it over. Of course have the header unbolted from the exhaust pipe so you aren't fighting that as well. (but may cause other problems with lining up)

If you've got something with steel cable, that would certainly work, albeing harder on the finish if coated. I tried with ratcheting tie downs, the nylon simply stretched too much.

Mine rattled on the shackles at first (a couple months), but they have since "self-clearanced" and are quiet.

thanks everyone, yeah I already did reversed the shackle bolts and no luck so I am just going to run it for a bit and reef on it, hopefully it will work. I'm not lucky enough to have my own set of torches to heat it properly.

I tried that but it seems like it just bends at the flanges so I didn't really ever put much pressure on it

Mine are close to my drive shaft

what type of headers did you get, my flowtech headers are far away from the shackel, but awfully close to the driveshaft

the headers are two wheel drive hooker headers but the price was right ($FREE$) so I pryed on them with an old tie-rod, it actually worked pretty good, exhaust is getting done sometime this week and should be goin for a wheel this weekend. thanks for the ideas everyone.
