OK so I turned my baby bro onto this car I was going to buy. Its a 77 nova with a 350 and a saginaw 4 speed.
decent condition but it doesnt matter much cuz its just a toy for him.

Anyway on to this mystery. The driveline was not installed but had new u-joints in it. Kind of a little bonus I guess, but the straps and bolts where missing for the rear yoke. So I went out and grabbed the straps and bolts off a 10B I have out back. The bolts fit int the threads but the straps where too narrow. So I grabbed some off a 14B and guess what still too narrow.
So we went to the parts store their computer called for 2 differnt strap and bolt kits. We ordered both. 1 set was exactly th same as the 10B straps I had, and the other set is even smaller. I have a 12B rear end in my garage and it has the same straps as the 10B.

So what the hell kind of funky yoke is on this car?
Just for the sake of doing it I took a tape measure to them. The actual u-joint indent is the same as the other 10B but the holes for the bolts is 1/4" wider.

I thought maybe it needed the u-bolt style but theres no way to get past the threads in the holes.

Does a 10B have a crush sleve?

I may donate my 12B to his cause but that means swapping to 5 lug.

A 10 bolt does use a crush sleeve. The 12 bolt truck axle is different than a car axle and the parts will not interchange.

I dont have a 12B car axle to interchange parts with.

We are just going to order 12B truck axles in the lug pattern required. He wants to put disk brakes on it witch im not sure how to do yet but im sure it can be done. width wont really matter as the wheels can be offset to correct that and its just a toy.

If I remember corectly the novas and malibus 74-80 should have a 5 on 4 3/4 bolt patter? Im not sure we will have to check for sure before we do it.

All G-F-X-A-G bodies had 5 on 4 3/4 lug pattern .

You want to take a rear out of a Firebird with the Trans Am package 72-81 , many of those got 8.5 inch axles , with the latter 70's to early 80's getting discs most of the time . That stock Nova 10 bolt is too small .

the 8.2 'small' 10 bolt disappeared in 1972. 1973 and newer is all the 8.5 10 bolt and is pretty strong (no 12 bolt option either). My friend has one in his 73 ventura (aka nova).

Yup pretty strong , and since he has an actual 350/4 speed car he has a 8.5 ( i missed that part thinking he had a base car with a 7.5 )

But the T/A axle makes a drop in disc brake posi swap :thumb:

I think it came behind any stick, my buddies ventura is a 6cyl, 3 on the tree car with a 8.5" 10 bolt rear. The t/a rears are the way to go for cheap posi rears w/ disc.

ok, I looked it up and it looks like 1976 was the first year for the 7.5" 10 bolts. Glad you don't have one of those small axles.

:haha::haha::haha:

YALL still missed the point of the original post. The u-joint straps on the yoke. The holes are wider than 14B straps, but the u-joint is smaller. I cant figure out this yoke its just retarded.

Is the yoke funny, or did someone install a funky u-joint?

Can't help beyond that, GM was smarter in the 80's, I think 7.5 and 8.5" car diffs use the same u-joints.

Take the yoke to a driveline shop and ask them what will fit this and they have size charts they can use to reference what style yoke you have and also get the u-joint for it w/ straps. At least the local place near me would do this for me.
