I found one of these for $400. Complete minus the engine. I am buying it for the 14b FF rear and 3/4 front. Replacing my broken 12 bolt and 1/2 ton D44. Questions are did these typically come with open carrier, gov lock or limited slip, the guy I am getting it from can't find any codes. Also besides the 205 what else should I scalp from the truck? I think the rear springs should be better than my K5 springs. I will be doing the DIY4X shackle flip at the same time.
Thanks

my dads still has his 78 camper special and it has an open diff with 3.73 gears and a 203 t-case. Still has 52" rear springs, so the only thing that makes it "special" in my books is the th400 and the dumbo mirrors.

Really depends on the options, My '80 K-20 camper special 8600GVWR came fully loaded with 350,Th400,Np205, open 10 bolt front, 14 bolt rear with Gov lock. Electric windows and locks, Heavy duty brakes, A/C, heavy duty cooling, Heavy duty alternator (?), Dual tanks, and tinted rear sliding window. It had anti-wrap bars ontop of the leaf springs. The rear springs had 10 leafs in each pack, it rode like a rock. If its in good shape, should swap the brake booster and master cylinder as well to match brakes on the axles.

If you're gutting it for parts and junking the rest, im looking for a couple of items if you're willing. Like a working dual tank selector valve, Transfer case knob, and the domelight lens and housing.

I have a 1979 camper special and it has open diffs probably because it had the NP203 and was full time 4wd. Now it has a part time kit and needs a Govlock.

Thanks.
Forgot to mention it is in a GMC Sierra Grande if it makes any difference. The crappy picture I saw really looks like a 205 and it is mated to a 4 speed. I am hoping for 4.10 or 4.56 gears and the 14b is open because I want to put a locker in it.
I will take the 1 1/2 hour drive on Tuesday and go check it out and hopefully buy it.
People around here and the junkyards want $300 on up for the 14b FF so I figure I might as well buy the whole thing and get extras and sell off the rest or off to the boneyard.
Amtek, I will let you know, if you need some things.

One of my friends has a 78 camper special that is all original and it has a 400,th400,np203 and open diffs.
