'78 K10 Build

View attachment 230757 I plan on doing a fair amount of work to this thing so I decided to post up a build thread. It may not happen very quickly, but it will happen.

Here is a pic of when I went down to KC, MO and picked up my 1978 Chevrolet SWB K10.

It is equipped with a SM465 4 speed, part time 4wd t-case 205, Factory G80 locking diff with 3:40 ratio gears, and manual locking hubs. It has an old 350ci with some kind of crappy headers, Flowmaster mufflers, and an Edelbrock intake. It also came with a Giant stack of service records, some dating back to '90.

Here are some pics of the ol' pos when I got it home.

It had these 32x11.5 15 BFG's with some UGLY wheels when I got it.

Picked up these factory rally wheels with all center caps and beauty rings real cheap.

Wet sanded the wheels, primed, and panted them "dull aluminum" which is the closest thing to argent(sp?) silver I believe.

I think I did a good job taping the wheels off.

Rally wheels on and cleaned up a little.

Here you can see the box damage of where a snow plow hit the side.

I was looking underneath the other day and found this

Painted the center grille area.

And this is how it sits right now.

Currnet plans are: Trail/Rock Rig.

3/4 axles (geared and locked)
4" tuff country lift for front
Shackle flip for rear
Brake lines
Maybe zero rates
37's Hummer take off's

I know its not much of a "build thread" yet, but I will try to keep it updated!

Any comments or suggestions are more than welcome as I am new to this and would like to hear it! :waytogo:

I have a suggestion. Come up here and get a set of 3/4 ton axles from me.

Oh, and flip your damn tires back around.

Alright i'll figure out a time I can get up there to pick 'em up. I don't know how soon if we get a **** load of snow like we're supposed to. Do they have 4:10's?

On the tires, the more I look at it I agree. Thats a lot of work though.

Take some pics!

Like the truck and the build sounds similar to my dd. Same color as mine used to be too. (hopefully will be again this summer)

I have a few sets of axles. One is 3.73's. I believe the rest are 4.10's. I am contemplating swapping the 4.56 geared set I jut bought under my Suburban, and removing the 4.10 geared set.

Let me know what you decide and what you want to sell me. Maybe give me a ballpark price on them as well. Do you have any 16.5's laying around that you wanna sell?
