78 k5 with th350 want th400 or 700r4???

A 1981 K30 would not have had an NP208. Probably came from a K20.

this may be a dumb question but it where im at. currently most of my driving is done in the city between 25-40mph. am i really going to see a mileage differance with a 700, or am i going to see the most improvement from converting it to 2wd with lockouts

In that situation, definitely do a part time conversion. Well I would recommend the part time conversion to anyone with a 203

Has anyone used a Bowtie 700r4 transmission? Thinking the level 2 would fit my needs.

I am looking to do a swap on my 73 Jimmy. Favoring the 700/208 swap at the moment. I am still new to this.
In looking for a donor vehicle (I have space) what years of Blazers should I be looking for. I don’t know how to ID the difference.

'82-'91

'85-'91 have a different adapter and crossmember

'87-'91 are better TH700R4's

'89-'91 have an NP241 instead of an NP208, which is better

'90-'91 use an electronic speedometer though, so you can not hook up your speedometer cable without modifications

The shift indicator on the dash will have four forward gear selections instead of three. Of course a lot of TH700R4's were replaced with TH350's back in the day, with a spacer.

Also, you can get all the parts from a pickup or Suburban instead, but you will have to have the rear driveshaft shortened, everything else will be a direct swap.

Little late to the party, but I have a bowtie stage 2 trans with an Atlas transfer case. I've had no issues with either. I had what the trans shop said was a copy of a bowtie in my other blazer, and it lasted almost 8 years. The real bowtie I have now has been in there for at least seven and hasn't ever been opened up, seems fine. Just keep it cool and I don't think you will have an issue, very nice folks there, and great customer service, which goes a long ways these days.

Bowtie as in Bowtie Overdrives in Hesperia ? I found their customer service to be hot and cold, this @ 2009. I had the toy shop in Pomona redo mine Dec 2018 after getting way frustrated, with Bowtie unit and parking it in 2010. Turns out one of the bands installed had the material fall off. Am told this happens when exposed to dampness.
Hope they did change for the better one tech was great, the other attiude was couldn't be bothered. Owner was kinda a micro manager. I see the web site has changed some they no longer sell the temp gauge I had, it quit last year before BB23.

I know of the Toy Shop also...and have heard good things about them. Buddy had his 4l60 redone by them, and it's gone 4 years in a Tahoe with a supercharger without a problem. I haven't had any dealings with bowtie in about 5 years, things could have changed. But they were very helpful over the phone back then. They are very picky about the install, and won't honor the warranty unless it's installed to their specs.
