ok here is a weird one, i have been wheeling my jimmy with the roof off for a while now and this last trip i hear noise like i was flexing sheet metal in the roof, i also noticed i broke the seams on both sides of the cab where thr roof meets the body.

once i got back on the road i noticed i have a loud squeek like metal rubbing on metal inside the roof in the top drivers side corner, I opened the door and checked the sound is still there. i removed trim its still there, i took a tiedown and ratched one of the bolt holes down to the floor and the noise goes away.... hmmmm any ideas? are there spot or tac welds in or around the roof that i may have popped?

im debating sticking a can of expanding foam inbetween the pannels to see if i can make it stop.

When I cut my roof off I found there were a couple of overlapping layers of sheetmetal at the B pillar to bedside seam, they went up into the B pillar but I don't know how far. If there are spot welds I'd think you'd see the dimples on the interior side of the pillar or possibly the face the camper shell bolts to.

Also, I've read a few times where wheeling with the camper shell off can result in a "bong" type noise from the roof flexing somewhere but a resulting continual squeak was never mentioned.

I would put money on that being where the sound is coming from. now i need to figure out if there is a way to fix it. the problem with sticking foam in there or grease is it may cause issue if my body guy later needs to weld in there. its 100% a metal on metal squeek and its LOUD and right by my head so it really drives me crazy.

Seriously, what about cutting a window (or 2 :yikes: ) open on the camper shell face and tack whatever you find together? Close the windows and touch up an area that is typically hidden.

hahaha i want to do the ful convertable soooo bad!
i will dig into it a little more tonight and see if i can get something in there

if it was my ugly truck id probaby try tipping it over. its that annoying

Yep, same here. Broke most of the spot welds across the roof and have cracks at each corner.
I know the noise. If you don't mind the dent, try using a punch as close to where the noise might be and smack it with a mallet. Or try smacking all the spot welds across the pillar with that punch and if you have body work done later, they can get filled again.

Also, full cage helps too. It's the hardest flexed spot on the whole truck. Like when you see the truck beds and cabs all twisted. :D
