79-80 Hood with the rib around the front

I believe so. It seems every replacement 73-80 hood I’ve ever seen has the 79-80 ridge on the lip. They must have used the later stamping for all older replacement hood. I never liked that rib either. Not sure if LMC offers both styles or just the later.

i'd like to see a side by side photo of the difference...

huh, that's goofy looking.. my 77 didn't have that...

I think its a 1st and 2nd design thing.

The trucks from '76 and older didn't have that rib and the '77 up to '80 had them.

my 77 didn't have it.. pretty sure it was the original hood..

The ridge on the hood lip was a 79-80 thing only. 73-78 did not have the lip from the factory. To Wazzabie’s point, I believe all later GM service replacement hoods and aftermarket hoods such as the LMC chinese junk carry the 79-80 lip theme. My 78 K10 also has the lip but it is not the original hood but rather a OEM hood from an ’80 Suburban.

From the 73-87.com website: 1979 GM begins making changes to the front end by combining headlight bezels and turn signals, a new apron is added below the grille, a decorative ridge was added to the leading edge of the hood, and new paint schemes were available. Catalytic converters are now standard on all trucks with GVW up to 8,500 pounds.

Not a very good picture but here is an original ’78 without the lip

My 76, 77, 78, and 79 trucks have all had the flat front; non-ridge type on them, and I believe the 79 was an original hood to the truck I took it off from; a GMC actually, does that make a difference?

That 79 hood is now on the Maiden:

I'll have to look closer, maybe there is a ridge on that hood...I'm pretty sure it was an original, having the truck body color on the underside of the hood as well as the top, looked like original paint...

Yep, an original 79 with the raised ridge off a GMC:

Those kinked hood got replaced a LOT back in the day. Who knows how many are original.

I have a 78 and know that the hood is original. It does not have the ridge. Sadly I was the one to bend the hood back in the mod 90's. This is before I knew to oil the hinges. I'm careful now with it but I've noticed it getting worse. Since I'm planning on stripping the paint and repainting the k5 it is time for a new hood.

Did GM make any other changes to the 79-80 hood to fix the hood bend problem?

Does anyone with a 79-80 have a bent hood?

It was a problem until 81 hood design.
you can get the side reinforcments to strengthen them...LMC
