I would like to re paint the white part of my k5 but would like to remove the trim to do it. Thing is, my trim is perfect so I don't want to mess it up trying to remove it. Any tips, as far as removal and replacement?

It's hard to do without hurting it. The big fender pieces are supposed to be held on with nuts inside the fender, fender removal may be necessary to get at one of the nuts. At some point, my fender moulding clips had been replaced with the springy snap-in type of clips used elsewhere on the body.

The door trim is held on with screws at the front, nuts in the rear, and double-sided tape patches along the way in the middle.

The rest of the trim is held on mostly with the double-sided tape patches, with either a screw at the end, or the snap-in clips.

The snap in clips can be very hard to remove without bending the trim. The double sided tape patches can be cut off with a razor blade.

Honestly, if there's no bodywork getting done and it's only paint work, just take your time and mask the trim off really well. Be sure to sand the old paint right up to the edge of the trim. Correctly removing the trim can be tricky, and installing it can be a PITA too.

Dangit! There would be a slight amount of body work involved... I will try to get a pic but i have rust running down from behind the trim itself. hmm. i dunno. I guess i could risk it as there is only one section(the driver rear quarter) that i need to remove. The rest i could just mask off.

when i took mine off, it came off alll messed up. pita if you want to keep it

What ever you do be carefull with it! I love that factory trim, and your blazer looks so good with it.:thumb:

Don`t mess it up!!

Dang. Maybe i should just wait until i can buy a new piece for incase i butcher this one.

If you take your time and are careful, you'll get it off of there without hurting it. If you don't have one of those pry fork tools meant for removing interior trim, get one. It will make the job easier.

I just bought a 1976 2wd swb and was wondering the same thing. The white has a couple scratches and needs no body work. Guess I will get the paint shop to just mask mine off.

So some pieces have external scews haloding it on?

I just bought this truck and I want to have it repainted, I saw some screws and thought maybe someone had attached screws to hold it on.

Does any company make/sell replacements that look/fit like original?
