I think I want one of these. Looking for a housing ideally but I’m not opposed to a whole axle.
Shipped to San Antonio Tx.

good luck on that, they are around but $$$. I believe only the snow fighter came with that axle. Member here in AK has for his Highboy, not sure if he has 2

the 79 has a different spring perch width than 80 I am not sure why Objaun wants the 79, but they bolt right into 67-72 f250-350 4x4 the others don't

I know the costs and I’m ready to buy a problem solver axle just not for 4 grand. It’s hard to not do the hog back radius arm 60 though. My only apprehension is losing my hubcaps lol

Doesnt someone make wheels now that accecpt the old style hubcaps but are wider with modern day bolt patterns? Wheel vintiques maybe?

Yes they do. It’s us wheel, however the 17 I want is a reverse barrel and the drop center does not clear a super duty caliper.

20+ years ago i wanted a high pinion 60 for my kids truck. Back then they were 2k plus and few to none on west coast. Mostly NE. I didn't look around Alaska probably some up there.
Ended up with a disc brake, big ball, lp, 44 for 500. Big improvement over the warn out closed knuckle.

I’m hoping these 05+ availability is gonna drive down the demand for archaic axles. Leave the leaf springs for the poors as per tradition!

Not opposed to cutting up a 99-04 and making my own axle again.

This might be the best solution

Those axles still bring alot. The newer ones don't do squat. I had 2 for sale for what seems like forever, sold em both for $750. I don't really look for axles anymore. I have what I want for my rigs, that's it. But my '00 does have the 79 HP60..

Hogback is great option for an 05+ axle, but all-in, isnt a “cheap” option, even when sourcing the coil SD inexpensively. I know because all the parts are sitting in my spare bedroom.

All in cost wise, a 78/79 ford 60 would be cheaper i would think.

@obijuank5 i assume for the burb?

If building your own axle, you have more flexibility in terms of years right? Obviously different years will be easier to source parts.

You could build your axle from something like this, no? East coast seems to have sever housings, but dont see any 78/79 though. Nevermind the long road trip lol.

Thread hi-jack on.

Would 1) a small wheel spacer clear them on reverse barrel or 2) the non-reverse barrel clear? I trust you, assuming you are comparing measurements to come to that conclusion? Or did you have your hands on them to physically see the clearance issue?

Thread hi-jack off.

Yeah it’s for the burb. A 99-04 housing would be easy to work with. But that kingpin housing would just need to chop one end off then weld it to the other side to shift the housing over 4”. Very simple honestly.

This is based on the dimensions a sales rep gave me from us wheel.
A non reverse barrel would fit but they don’t offer the wheel width I want. Then secondly and probably most importantly is the locking hub would not protrude through the hub cap and would look dumb.
The last thing I want is all that work to not present well.
