'79 K10 Step Side Rusty Rex

79K10 Stepside
Nothing ground breaking will done. Lots of bolt on usual stuff. Bought this in August of this year and will add pics as I go.
Everyone likes pics anyway. I have purchased a D60 front and will buy a 14BFF asap. I am in the process of moving and will add pics and detail as I can.

This is where I am at with the rear axle, Poking at it on my lunch breaks and after work. I am staying drum brakes, yes I know discs are better. I have spent a fortune on this project already and will have around 120$ into the drum brakes and they will be 100% reconditioned inside. Later they will be replaced with discs and done right.

If anybody is even reading this far sorry the build is scattered. Life has been scattered catching up after a move. This thing is down at the moment, it gets pushed into the shop on Friday evenings and I work on it Saturdays then push it out. I may be able to have it running again soon. But once I started to install parts it sorta snowballed into adding more stuff.

I still need to wire up the TBI and plumb fuel lines and hoses from the tank. My initial start up of my fresh EFI swap will also have a 30 min cam break in. I went with an edelbrock 2102 cam, pretty mild. Cannot wait for this truck to be running again. I have all my parts to build my 14BFF and Dana 60 then install. But I will not install them until they are fully built and can just be installed.

I did recently acquire a 5.3L core from a 2014 truck for free. So I could build that on the side later for an install if I want.

The axles will not be special or anything new but will have the following below.

Dana 60 front-Yukon 5.13 gears and spartan locker. New brakes. High steer cross over arms. Hydro assist ram.

14 Bolt rear-5.13 Yukon gears and Yukon Grizzly locker. New brakes. New 1350 yoke.

I can’t argue with the color choice!
This is my 3rd Squarebody. The First two I painted both of them Desert Sand. That's why I have some leftover. Im leaning towards painting this one Oxide Red. I Don't like fancy paint jobs on my trucks. Bad things happen to shiny paint when I drive.

Swapped the axles in last Saturday. Still working out the steering. Did hydro assist. Did not use the high steer portion of those arms. Just the crossover.

Shit loads more pics. Nothing pioneering, but pics none the less.

Worked out a power steering leak after work last night. I did the west Texas off road mod to my pump. I did 2 washers under the spring and the limit stud grinding. Steering response is decent so far.

Rear pinion support is leaking right at the shims area. Used new shims and torqued to spec. I used no sealant. So, I will slip it apart and use a super thin layer of GM engine sealant. My sealant of choice, being a GM Tech for a living and all.

So much more work to do. Will upgrade the suspension in the rear in time. Just barley getting this rig rolling though.
