i found a 79 crew cab dually the other day for 2500 hundred, dana 60 front and dana 70 rear ....

my question
is one should i buy it>

two how hard would it be to swap a cummins in it .... cause i found a 98 12valve for 1500 without the turbo...

and about how much lift would i need for 22.5 alcoas with a bout a 36 inch tall log truck tire.....>?

also what tranny should i put in it to bolt up to the 205

keep in mind a prb going to be the ultimate tow rig slash daily driver
maybe 450hp and 900lb of torque

would love some input

sweeeet! i think you should buy it. and a six inch lift with them tires ought to look really good. the th400 is a good beefy trans but is a 3 speed. you may want to look for a later model 4l80 or whichever its called.
as far as the cummins swap it should be pretty easy. i know a 4BT goes right in with some small mods.

yea i was the king ranch copper color with the matching interior tan and copper , yea about the trany i no where a 4l80e is for 300 that just got rebuilt from a buddy .. and all he does is rebuild trany and diffs for a living so i should be good .... but yea its not everyday u find those trucks anymore ...... at least for wat i got planed for it

Oh no...not another "When I grow up I hope to be a Peterbilt" dually pickup running 22.5's.....

1. A 4L80E doesn't belong behind a higher powered Cummins, that is a big block or weak GM diesel trans.

Put a Dodge 47RH behind it, but you'll have to figure out how to set your lockup converter to actuate on it's own. Also, Dodge autos are different with overdrive. OD has to be electronically commanded. It's not like the 700R4 or L80E where you have drive and overdrive on the shifter, allowing the valve body to command overdrive mechanically. Dodge and Ford autos use a button to command overdrive, but the computer handles the command and will only send the command after the truck has locked up in 3rd gear and engine & speed parameters are correct. You could command OD with a toggle, along with the lockup, but thats a pretty hokie setup and a guy would be constantly working the toggles from stop to stop.

If you can find a 205 that came out of an '89-93 Dodge diesel with the automatic, there is your case.

There is tons of info on a Cummins repower in the diesel forum of this site.
