79 k5 6.0 SWAP "Behemoth Mammoth"

Martin,

I plan doing a similar swap with my 74 k10 but with an hp60 in the front.

What size of lift are you running? Any clearance issues with the oil pan and crossover steering?

HEY MACK, SORRY IT TOOK A WHILE TO ANSWER BACK, ITS BEEN A BIT THAT IVE BEEN ON HERE AND UPDATED ANYTHING, IM RUNNING A 12" SUPERLIFT, AND NO NO CLEARANCE ISSUES, THAT IS ACTUALLY MY NEXT STEP IS THE DANA 60, BUT YOU SHOULD HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM, NOW FOR THE OIL PAN IT DOES HIT YOUR CROSSMEMBER, HAVE TO HACK A CORNER OFF SO IT CAN FIT

hey everyone, so got a few updatees, and 3 tranny rebuilts later, shes been running like a ch
Thanks

Just to make sure I'm seeing it correctly. The autometer gauges are installed on the outside of the bezel, are recessed into it, and angled up towards you, correct?

almost a yr and half later just realized i never answered you, sorry but yes that is correct, i believe i have a pic of how they mount from the inside ill post if i can find it

85 jimmy let me know if you wanna see how they mount, even though its been a while lol, i can get a pic, i can't find the one i took,

hey everyone, so got a few updates since last time i was on here, and 3 tranny rebuilds later, shes been running like a champ. shes been the perfect daily driver and my service truck for work, so where to start, back in december i upholstered my rear plywood panels with black vinyl, they came out pretty decent for my first time upholstering. Made a custom cover behind my seats so i don't have to worry about all my stuff in the back when i'm out with my top off and overnight. got rid of that ugly rear bench seat and scored on a 2013 3rd row tahoe seat, looks brand new for $150, and thru that in there. also finally changed my front seats about a couple months ago. The seats came off a 2003 silverado work truck, scored the 2 buckets for $70, without center console, where grey vinyl and bought black vinyl paint to match the rest of interior. So i wanted to have the option to have a center console and a seat if needed, the 40/20/40 seats, so the center jump seats are all interchangeable from 1999-2013, i really liked the 2007-2013 jump seat with the 3 cup holders but the price weren't dropping from $350 and up. So i looked at the 2014-up and they were going for around $150 and were common but of course doesn't interchange, but i really like the look so i made a custom mounting bracket and they fit perfect. I also cleaned up my engine bay, no more ugly spaghetti wires all over the place, built a custom looking fuse panel. installed a bigger radiator off a 2500hd silverado, fits perfect and stays cooler, installed my train horn but still haven't mounted compressors and tank. Also installed my dy4x shackle flip. i thinks thats about it so far, but not even close to the finish line. i'll post a few pics in a bit

Cool thanks man

so rite now im running 44/21-20 on 4.88 gearing runs smooth, but my tranny keeps slipping, so i wonder if i should go back down to 40's??? anyone any suggestions? a plus ill have more clearance with 40's, and with 40's i never had a problem with my tranny.. hmm:what::dunno:

looks like 4l60e with three rebuilds, he's got a case of the bangaboosh tranny disease. Also says he's on 4.88's.

With an OD tranny and 40"+rubber he needs every bit of a 5.38+ gearing if he wants that trans to last any extended period of time.

Are you running a cooler and monitoring trans temps?

yea a 4L60E, on 44's with 4.88 gearing, i was originally running 40's and never had a problem, got some 44's on a good deal so threw them on, i blew 3rd and 4th drum twice, the third time as soon as i put in the drum had a crack that they didn't catch the last time so dropped it again and sent it back, now this last time had been driving fine for about a week, so to test it drove it up to nor. cal., 400 miles one way to be exact then drove another 100 miles to stockton was out there a whole day driving around, finally the following day heading back home to LA as soon as i hopped on the freeway fourth gear started to slip and then didn't want to grab, sa had to drive back 350 miles doing 45-50 mph without over revving, as soon as i got back sent my truck to tranny shop to make them go thru and see what went wrong, but now i'm wondering if i have wrong gearing for 44's, even though she doesn't hesitate, have a delay or lag at all

sorry forgot to answer that part, i have a tranny cooler, but its just attached to the front of my radiator, but i just got i the mail yesterday was a hi-tek cooler with built in fan, and trans temp no, i need to add that still, where would you guys recommend tapping into for tranny temp?

I bought the Derale temp gauge setup and drilled a hole in my pan (th400) for the sensor. You can also put a "T" fitting on the output line so you're reading fluid temp as it leaves the tranny before the cooler.

@Babaganoosh might have some other info, he's been through a bakers dozen of 4L60E's

sweet thanks ill look into that, i hope this tranny cooler helps also has an automatic fan switch, even though it looks a bit smaller than my aux cooler. sweet hopefully he can help out with some more info on it thanks, i was close to your area in my k5 wed-fri lol in vallejo than stockton lol
