I'm sure @Larry can answer this for me, and I know I've asked this before somewhere on this forum site, but for some reason I can't find where I asked, and I can't find the part number I used over a year ago. But what is the part number for the correct pilot bearing for an 8.1 to install an NV4500 behind it? Rockauto has the pilot bearing showing for the ZF-6 that normally came behind the 8.1 (http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=452121&cc=1380259&jsn=8), but I can't remember if that same pilot bearing works or if there is another specific one.

@Larry, do you know off hand?

Thanks!

I believe that both the ZF-6 and the NV4500 both have the same pilot O.D. of .590" so the stock 8.1 bearing should work.

There is only one bearing but several part numbers depending on the sales outlet. I believe the actual bearing is a Timken. The GM bearing and Napa bearings I bough were identical, just different boxes. The ID of the bearing is the same as any other GM over the past many decades so it fits the ZF, NV, SM465 and probably even back further

Napa 6302VSP43
GM 12557583
AC Delco CT1082

Perfecto! That's what I needed.

Thanks @Larry!

silly question, will that tranny bolt up to a 6.2l diesel or sbc?

It'll definitely bolt up to a SBC.

With the correct flywheel and pilot bearing/ bushing it should bolt up to a 6.2L also, the share the same bellhousing as SBC/BBC.

Handloader is correct, the GM NV4500 has the same bell housing pattern as all the previous GM tranny's before it. So all you really need to worry about is getting the correct flywheel for whatever motor you have, then get the correct clutch setup for your NV4500, and you are good to go (well, in some cases there are a few tiny things you have to deal with, but pretty straightforward either way).
